Jeez, calm down. It's the same sort of relative benchmark they've been putting on appliances for years. It isn't even new data, just a different representation of the same old smog info that's been collected for 30 years.

Burn it if it will make you happy. :D

TButtrick 01-12-2010 05:07 PM

They've got you kalifornians drinkin the kool-aid I see.

Gunner 01-12-2010 05:13 PM

Okay, never mind the "calm down." Go ahead, work it up, get those blood vessels standing out, run the BP up into the 200s and stomp around good and loud... because you found an unnecessary piece of paper in the stack that comes with every new car.

:D

TButtrick 01-12-2010 05:17 PM

... and when they take your carbon breathing ERA from your hands, you'll be signing a diiferent tune. I wish more people would get worked up regarding current issues.

Gunner 01-12-2010 05:28 PM

I do, but CT sticking a piece of paper in your new car docs about the relative smog-generating level of your new wheels isn't an issue. It isn't even something new, just a recasting of the same data printed elsewhere. They shift the presentation of this stuff around every year or two; this is the current great idea. It's worth a snort and a crumple and a match if it bothers you, but (IMVHO) not more.

mdmull 01-12-2010 05:51 PM

We're lucky that cars aren't selling too well - saves the additional trees, & money that California apparently has enough of to waste it on this crap

Excaliber 01-12-2010 06:38 PM

That is some serious foot stomping, getting mad as hell BS though... :)

Geez EX. Some might think you to be the queen of foot stomping BS on this forum. But not me though...

TButtrick,

He's got my vote for queen foot stomper and you have the threads to prove it; good stuff..

Excaliber 01-12-2010 07:44 PM

Heck I would have been proud to start this thread! Can we add it to your list and give me the credit? :) Those stickers are in fact some serious BS.

Why? What possible downside is there to showing buyers the relative smog production of the vehicle within its class, just as we show them the relative power consumption of appliances? It doesn't really matter whether it's related to (hold on tight now, I'm going to talk dirty) G____l w_____g or not, some buyers might make an active choice to buy a less-polluting vehicle. Enabling this decision cannot be a bad thing.

Besides, you really have to pick your battles. This one isn't worth picking.

Excaliber 01-12-2010 08:53 PM

Oh I agree about picking your battles, that's why I chose Oregon over California! Just to many rules, laws, regulations and BS to deal with, life is just simpler here, than there.

But here is why I think the sticker is really major BS. "Vehicles are a major contributor to Global Warming..." Contributor to SMOG, OK, I won't argue that. But I'm not prepared to buy into the Global Warming BS though. Maybe there IS global warming, caused by man, or more accurately, CARS in this case. Maybe, maybe not. What religion are these C.A.R.B. people anyway? Just what freakin' church do they belong to? Obviously their religious zealots preaching their doctrine and assuming everyone buys into 100%.

The problem is that the Republik of Kalifornia probably has an entire department that they pay 6 figure salaries to produce these pieces of paper. It would seem to me that considering the state is on the brink of bankruptcy, they would find better ways to spend their money than on this drivel......

wow... touched a nerve there. The intent is to not pull a fast one over the moderators but rather to be sensitive to thinned-skinned individuals who might be offended by harsh content in THE LOUNGE. Oh look, I've found one! I'd edit the subject if I could so moderators feel free to edit anything here. I guess I should have used "f**k" instead as that seems to be perfectly acceptable in any forum here. Oh what am I thinking.. fugoff.

Ron61 01-13-2010 05:49 AM

Heck, even my garden tractor and weed eater have the California Smog approved stickers on them. I had to order my lead hammer from out of state. Only thing about it that gripes me is it adds about $200 to the garden equipment for this stuff.

Ron :)

Bill Bess 01-13-2010 06:42 AM

The EPA in California should consider printing all this EPA information on the vehicle using environmetally safe disolvable ink in lieu of wasting trees for this stuff.

In addition, Global Warming is real.....I know from personal experience........the earth gets warm when the sun comes up each day, especially here in Lake Havasu City , AZ. It gets so warm in the summer I must only wear sandles, shorts and a tank top, and of course my cobra ball cap.
What the heck (phuck)! do I care anyway.
