Pffft, that only the 2nd largest...
WOW, very impressive. They got Whale Sharks in there, WOW, that's big. In Hawaii I had a 150 gallon salt water tank. It takes a lot of work to reach a near self sustaining level of cleanliness, filter, temperature, salinity. The local Waikiki Aquarium, really nice with cutting edge research, pumps ocean water directly from ocean to the tanks and back to the ocean to provide a stable environment. They use some filters, pumps, etc. but primarily rely on the natural ocean water itself.

I think the Atlanta aquarium is the biggest. They have whale sharks and beluga whales.

I have a hard time supporting aquariums or zoos.

Have you been to the one in your city? Well worth the visit.

I'd be more supportive if I could catch a fish there for lunch. Some grouper on a bun with some tartar sauce and a pickle. Yum!

You might spend a few days there if you caught that whale shark.....

No I haven't, my daughter has. I think it contains 5 million gallons. Damn Whale Sharks keep dieing. I also have some family members that have been able to dive there. Cost I think $150.00. I know it odd but seems to me strange to take their instinctive element from them. I'm no tree hugger so I guess it's one of my quirks not wanting to go there. I had never been to Sea World in Ohio either. I lived there 30 some odd years.

Well, I have to say I agree. Zoo's that treat animals humanely are OK in my book. But there is something 1950ish about water parks where people sit in stands and watch fish do tricks.
Acquariums? No problem with them.

To me it's some what like putting a bird in a cage. A bird was meant to fly freely.

Well someone has to pay the upkeep for the animals! Some aquariums and zoo's do very important research and are a major help for various disappearing species. If that means the dolphins need to "jump for their dinner" or the bears need to smile for the camera, well, someone's gotta help pay the bills. I'd have to consider each facility on a case by case basis. Just making people aware of the animals and fishes is a good thing for the various creatures on earth.

I'm not suggesting to anyone to boycott anything. It's my personal quirk I guess. Also I know things have vastly improved in the keeping of animals. Jumping fish and research, OK, right.....
I also find hunting more humane.

I enjoy visiting aquariums and zoos. I used to spend quite a bit of time at the Fresno Zoo as they had some really great things there. I liked to watch the monkeys and they had a Royal Bengal Tiger that was just beautiful and looked so calm.

I like the aquariums that allow you to dive in them. I snorkeled in the Camden, NJ Aquarium and went diving a cage in a Long Island Aquarium.
Looks like I have to set my sights higher or bigger.

A long time ago they had a big one in San Francisco that you went down in a diving bell to watch the sharks and such but it has long since been closed and that area is now houses.
