Now there you go spreading false info!!!!!!!!!!!:LOL:;);)
It was reported as a "FEE" asigned to the banks that got bail out money, not a tax.... that's just the democrats way of taxing someone and making it look like it's not a tax...............
Give them enough time and they access a "fee" to everyone for anything they can think of..........

And when the banks pay a FEE to the Government, surely the banks will lower our banking cost, right?
Q: What do you call any business that does not pass its tax costs on to the public?
A: Bankrupt!
Q: What do you call any politician that thinks he can tax a business without the public eventually paying that tax?
A: Idiot!

The sound logic is that even though the big banks have to pay an additional fee, the smaller banks will not have to pay the fee, and the larger banks will want to stay competative with the smaller banks so they won't pass the fee on to the consumer.
I have been told that in actuality, the bigger banks will increase their fee to the consumers, matched by the smaller banks, who will then make an even bigger profit.

Let's see he wants to get the TARP money back. And of all of the banks big enough to have to pay this new tax, all but one of them has already paid the money back. So it is mostly smaller banks (plus the automakers and homeowners) that got bailed out that have not paid back the TARP money, but the government will tax the really big banks because they are the most irresponsible? Even if those big banks never took any of the TARP money. I don't see the logic in that.

1ntcobra, it make perfect sense to tax the company who does not take any money because it means they were smart and have money. So, if they have it...a liberal must find a way to tax it so it can be spent by those who were not smart enough to save it in the first place.

I didn't realize that logic was supposed to be part of any decision making.

I'm just glad there is a discussion about how to recover some of the money the banks got! :)

As I recall, a number of the better large banks did not want TARP money. If the stronger banks had not taken any TARP money, the weaker banks that needed it would have looked even weaker and likely would have suffered runs from their depositers. Consequently, the Treasury Secretary coereced all the big banks to take TARP money to protect the few that needed it. Much of the bank TARP money was repaid with interest at a profit to the government. But now that misguided public anger is being directed at banks, they are being targeted for taxes by populist politicians. Higher taxes and populist politics aimed at big businesses has long been a staple of the Democratic party.

I haven't seen any data that says they have paid it ALL back. I am pleased to see data that indicates a BUNCH of it has been paid back AND we earned some decent interest money on that portion.
Now, can we squeeze the basturds for the rest of the money without shooting the tax payer in the foot doing it? That's all I'm asking... :)

Obama is simply trying to raise funds to keep GM et al afloat. "Squeez[ing] the basturds" who already paid it back is simply playing to the masses who hate rich people (which, by Obama's definition, is most of us).

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac blundered, execs being paid high compensation. Feds increased the amount they can lose. Then this President says nothing and gives them the green light!
WHAT!
Oh it's time for change, HA! What a joke.
The most corrupt administration ever.

What is your source for this idea that the banks HAVE paid it all back? Every number crunching article I've seen on this says they have NOT paid it back.

:) One down, only a few hundred left to go. Yeah, that's close enough to say "they HAVE paid it all back."

Bank of America was included in a vast group of hundreds of banking institutions that got government financial support through the TARP program.

the banks got bailedout by the govt. Any tax laid on them is good news. They got a free ride on US taxpayers and got bonuses.

But didn't you see where the Wall Street crowd that was the main cause of this financial collapse has apologized to Obama and that should take care of anything. And they are already starting the same crap over again, just smaller for now and keeping it quieter.

The problem with appeasing the masses is that half of the masses are of below average intelligence. It's not a good way to make wise policy for the economic and political health of the country.
