How's the rain and snow Ron?
I see Northern California is getting hit with storms.
|
Ron has SNOW???
   |
John,
We have had more rain in the past two days and nights than we had all last Winter and it is supposed to keep on all week. If it does, that will be more than we have had for two years. We really need it to get back to normal and also a lot of snow in the mountains for run off during the Summer. And my weeds in the yard are now getting high, but it is like walking on a wet sponge out there so no mowing for quite a while. Ron :) |
good deal Ron, maybe those mud puddles will turn back into lakes.....
|
It's been fairly dry up my way but the WIND has been fierce!
|
We got another 2 inches of snow last night........
|
:3DSMILE:
Tru, NO SNOW. Just a lot of rain and still coming down. Ron ;) |
We had massive rain and wind so strong last night I thought I'd surely be driving around downed trees this morning. I didn't see a single downed tree, branch, fence, anything... I guess all the weak stuff went in the earlier storms.
We got one brief dusting of snow here (VERY rare) in early December but now it's just rain, rain, rain, rain, rain. |
Well we are just starting to get some wind now and the rain is still coming down but not as hard. The lake shows some signs that it has raised a foot or so.
Ron |
Hey John,
How are things up your way today? We are having hard rain and wind, with gusts that are supposed to reach 60 MPH this afternoon. So far no snow this low but they are stopping traffic on I-5 to make sure they have chains as there is some snow in the mountains. If the wind gets that bad with everything soaked, I fear we will have power outages as some of these trees won't take that wind and the wet ground. The tall Digger Pines have a very shallow root system and area real pain. Ron |
Dry, reasonably warm, blowing wind like a dang hurricane! I just got back from a short ride on the bike, wind gusts are not fun. I gave it up and came home. I heard we had gusts here around 85 mph, many trees blown over.

Rain and wind so bad here my wife gave up her rounds and came home for the day, no small thing. |
I saw something about parts of L.A. and mandatory evacuation? I'm like WHAT???? Got distracted and never read the article, helluva of a headline though!

Gunner, are you having any flooding down there yet. I would bet the Yolo causeway area is under water. I am far enough above the lake that I don't have to worry about that other foot. Ron |
There's no flooding here in my home studio, although I am as usual ankle-deep in large friendly dogs. The creek behind the house, usually a trickle or at most a foot deep in wet weather, is six feet across and three deep, a sign that the ground here is saturated and we're approaching 100% runoff.
I was in the massive flooding in 1995 that made national headlines (remember the retirement home sitting in the middle of a lake? I worked two blocks away). Had to search out a path home that wouldn't drown my Mustang. Haven't seen anything of that scale yet but I understand this will continue through the weekend... fortunately this house, like my one then, is on a substantial rise and above anything but truly catastrophic, dam-broke flooding. |
Well here's hoping that you won't have to go through that again. I remember eating in Old Sacramento when I would be down there working and thinking about what would happen if the river broke through. The last report that I saw for here has changed from rain all through the weekend to it ending Friday and being overcast and windy Saturday and Sunday. But that will change in another hour or so too.

Gunner,
I was in southern California at that time and later that year got married. My Mother in law lived on the north side of Sacramento at the time and was one of the nurses that was doing extra volunteer work to help the members of the nursing home get their meds and stuff. I know you guys need the water, but here is hoping it stops raining for a bit and then starts again. Let the ground stay mostly saturated and the lakes fill back up. No flooding. When we came out of our drought a few years ago there was a lot of flooding and even though I am not in a flood plain, we started to get a little standing water, but just down the road the highways were closed because the lakes were, at one point, 4 feet over the banks. I30 bridge over Lake Ray Roberts was shut down because the waves on the lake from the wind were washing over the highway. Hope your year does not get that bad. |
...I just finished mowing the lawn. I was talking to Ron the other day and he said HE needed to mow. Well, I did to, it's been"just warm enough" lately the grass has been springing up a bit.

One thing about the Bermuda grass here, it goes dormant during the winter months, and even with the rain we have been getting, it is only small bits of green, that really isn't growing, just barly keeping green. No cutting for a few more months, even after it warms up. It goes dormant for about 4-6 months out of the year and gives you a break. I haven't cut since the first of November and that was just a cut to shorten it up for the winter, last cut before that was October 1st. Of course during the spring and summer you have to cut every week or it is too tall for HOA regs.
