Ed,

We read the same article. I put it in a thread titled Problems for Governor. With what the Governor has done back there, he has kind of put his foot in his mouth.

I suspect much of that is myth, kind of like saying whatever happened to the "good old days." In many ways, they weren't that good and the people weren't "that moral".

There have always been people lacking in integrity and virtue and character, but they used to be 5% of the population vs 65% now.

I don't about the percentage numbers there, but the trend in general I agree with. As a country we have lost a sense of responsibility to some degree.

I made up the percentages, but they reflect the point from an overall perspective.

Ernie,

I think the moral decay and loss of responsibility is a lot more than you are portraying it to be. Remember when if there was a break in here it was front page news. Now you have to kill at least 2 important people to make the front page. And Redding is just a small town.

Well I figured you had, it would be virtually impossible number to get a handle on. How would you measure it? But OK, it's definitely a upward trend.

One thing we have today that we've NEVER had before. More reporting, more access to "numbers". In the past many many things were not reported by the victims. THAT was largely a "moral imperative", keep your mouth shut (or else in many cases). Thats why I suspect some of the "good old days" are a myth.

You are correct about the fact that back in the Good Old days they didn't have the media to sensationalize everything. So a lot of what happened maybe 100 miles from where people lived they would never hear about.

Darn, but it is hard to believe that in maybe 40 years people will look back on today as the Good Old Days.

Generations lose perspective of the really important things in life during extended periods of "good old days" like we've been in.

The folks from the 30's and 40's generally still considered them "the good old days" not because of the times themselves, but because of the jaded generations they're struggles for prosparity produced.

While nobody wishes for another Great Depression, you can't help but wonder if it my be our only salvation as Americans. Another factor outside of any of this is of course our loss of youth and free-spirtedness that time strips away from us all.

People make times good or bad, everything else is just "stuff"...
