Default SAAB to build cars in Russia

http://www.thelocal.se/25806/20100329/

Russian banker/crook Vladimir Antonov announced today that SAAB will build cars in Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea, boundried by Poland and Lithuania. Kaliningrad (Kalinin's city) was one of Russia's few warm water ports (that is: ice free, mostly) that Russia kept after the Baltics declared their independence from the USSR.

Not sure if the SAAB convertible will still be assembled in Finland again.

Neither sure if GM will retain any portion.

BMW already assembles in Kaliningrad, with a special low tax fee on imports into Russia.

GM is out and Antonov and his partners are in charge, AFAIK. So, like MG, I guess he can take the nameplate anywhere that's advantageous to him.

Saab stopped being Saab when GM forced its own platform on them. At least Ford and Chrysler had the sense to bring Volvo and MB platforms HERE to build better cars on, not shove low-end US engineering on premium lines. GM got what it deserved in the end...
