Default Volvo XC90 your feed back welcome...

Ok, I have ZERO experience with Volvo, in fact I don't even think I've been in one... But, the wife & I are expecting our first child, and a cobra just won't do!

She has her heart set on the Volvo XC90... Safety & all...

Please educate me. What are your experieces with this brand & this car.
All feedback welcome

I have thought of perusing a Volvo forum, but I thought I might get some impartial & honest responses here first.

Thanks in advance.

I've had a 2003 XC90 and I love it. Can't find a safer car. Tows 5000 pounds (used it to tow my Cobra in a Serpent Express trailer - 4000 lbs - to Maine and back from No Va and had no trouble at all.) All around great car - currently 105,000 mi and it looks like new.

Be wary of the T6 twin turbos. Transmissions were not as robust as need be and lots of documented failures. Nice vehicle but terrible consumer report ratings on the earlier versions anyway. We had a 2004 T6 and liked it but sure glad I had the extended warranty.

Exactly what Curt C. says. We have a 2003 and a lot went wrong under warranty. We just put 8k into it. It has 140k miles and we’re taking to 200k. Don’t get older than 2008. Get the 3.2 motor. The XC90 is now rated 5 stars. We’ve kept it because of the safety and comfort, and will buy one again. If you buy new do the overseas purchase. Free airline and hotel to go drive it. Free shipping home and it costs less than buying it at home.

We have an '09 XC90 for my wife's daily driver. Have put about 75,000 miles on it and it's been great. Have always done the scheduled maintenance, but there have been no repairs outside of the pm's that I can recall. We're really happy with it.

This is our 2nd Volvo. Got the first when we started having kids. (we still have it, an 840 with 240k miles). Safety was certainly a factor in choosing a Volvo. My father in law has done accident investigation for 30 years so he's seen his fair share of auto accidents. Said he wanted his grandkids to always ride in Volvos.

You can't go wrong with a Volvo, I am alive today after a bad crash @ 65mph with a Volvo 123 GT 1967 back in 1969. The Volvo was totalled the guy who bought it off the auction fixed and used on the road again. I have had 6 Volvos. as a matter or fact I sold my last 123 GT 1967 prior to buying my Cobra. You can see it at Volvo Adventures 123 GT (USA) British Racing Green(Volvo Adventures, Spec 123GT Michael USA) . It is now in Oregon. I hope this helps.

After my cobra is complete, I want to put a big nasty SBF in a P1800 with modern suspension and brakes.
