What is the best part...
What do you consider the best parts of a car cruise and/or small scaled car show? Or what is enjoyed the most by all? Inquiring minds want to know...

Much the same as what Flip said. I like the smaller, laid back kind of shows where you can just talk to the cars owners and enjoy the day instead of watching people trying to get votes for their cars. I like to talk to the owners about what mods they have did and why and how well they worked. Just a no pressure to win type show.

The people first, then the cars..........I always get around and look at as many cars as I can and always have seen something I wish I had done...... I try to find the owners and find out how they did something or where they got certain parts or how the parts work on their cars.........
I have made many friends over the years and many times I have either bought or traded parts with them......Some have led me to forgotten out of the way junk yards where I've found a few things I could use and some have given me "hot tips" on "barn finds" and I've done the same for for them......
I've sent a number of guys to this out of the way Chevy junk yard just loaded with early 70's car and parts and they have thanked me and turned me on to some Ford junk yards I did not know about..........
At all but one car show I attend, I always put a sign on my w/s, "DISPLAY ONLY", so I don't have to spend hours detailing my car and worrying about winning a 5 dollar trophy.......

2) Looking closely at the cars and picking up tips for your next modification
3) The other cars

Kristen,
I worry about you.
Warren,
You are past help. You should be going to fashion shows instead of car shows.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.
I'm hoping to pull a cruise and show together next year for a small community celebration. It sounds like low key (no contest) and the ability to look/see is key factors that is appealing. The hotties (both male and female) are extras!
One last question (well, probably not..but work with me).. are you in favor or against "entry fees" - if you know the money is going towards a charitable cause or back into the community?

65,
We have a cruise and small car show here every year on the date the dam was finished and I believe the entry fee is $10 dollars which goes into the community Senior Citizen fund. I pay a lot of times and don't even take a car over as I just have to walk two blocks to the hall. There are no plaques or anything to be won so that removes all the complaining about who should win. I enjoy it as it is just very laid back and next to a small park where vendors can set up booths and we all spend the evening just talking, looking at the cars, and browsing the vendor booths to see what they have. Then the cruise goes over to Shasta Dam and back and is just a fun drive, no burn outs, or other stuff like that. Red Bluff had a similar thing a few years ago when the new Ford Dealership opened and that was an enjoyable day. Everyone who attended got a dash plaque I think it was and there was no judging of the cars.

now I thought that was funny!
drive-in's, cruises without 'shows' are really fun! just hanging around, looking good.
I've never done a 'show' where i just showed up and hung around all day.
The 'organized' show's I've done have been pretty big affairs. A lot of time, a lot of work, and nice big trophies.
the relaxed atmosphere of cruise in, drive in's can't be beat.
K
and watching the hot babes is quite fun.

65;
One of the things I go to is called a "block party". they cordone off 2 or 3 blocks downtown for the cars, starts at 5:30 pm, ends at 9:00pm, open to all "old cars"......no entry fee or specator fee, but they always have a number of items up for raffle that were donated and that is how they raise money.....you'd be suprised at how much money they raise........people don't seem to mind putting down 5 or 10 bucks if they know they have a chance to win something......
Another event is just called "crusie nite", pretty much the same thing, but in a mall parking lot, there you can enter to have your car judged if you want, about 50% do. they do a couple of raffles and also serve hotdogs/hamburgers/cokes to raise money for the car club that puts it on.......
I've found you have a little better participation from both car owners and spectators if you can put on the event without any entry fee.....if need be, try to keep the entry fee as low as possible to attract the masses...............

Purely a Mid-western use slang on my part... "guys" includes everyone... Now,I'm sure I'll get a tease or two about how people talk here (aka the movie Fargo)..I assure you..we don't.
I'll start over with my gratitute...thanks for the suggestions. I'll expect each one of your cars to make the road trip for the car cruise/show next year - if I can get it off the ground and approved.
