Well, there you go, Steve. This forum truly is a great place ...everybody steps up to the plate ...er keyboard ...to do the right thing.

Some forums would not do so...
...remembering only the heat of a past discussion (or two)
...the chance to rob a man of his due. :rolleyes:

Acknowledgement perhaps better described by another published author:

The Cheat
Edgar Guest

I cheated a good friend yesterday,
Kept what was his, and went my way,
Wronged him by silence-for in haste
I let a glad thought go to waste.

I had a word of cheer to speak,
To strengthen him when he grew weak,
To send him smiling on his way -
But what I thought I didn't say.

He would have richer been to know
That deed of his had pleased me so,
But oh, I failed to let him see
How much his conquest meant to me.

I cheated him of words of praise
Which would have cheered his troubled days;
In this a faithful friend I wronged,
By keeping what to him belonged.

The praise was his by right to hear,
To him belonged my word of cheer;
In silence, though, from him I turned
And cheated him of what he'd earned.

Kind of corny but I've always liked it... :)

Congrats Steve... really.

DeVaux? So you are French??? Hmmm

But seriously, this could neot be written by our beloved VRM, could it? I scanned for spelling, and found program, not programme.

Thanks, Mike,

Nope, I'm American, by way of France, England, Scotland and Canada on my dads side, and Germany, England, and the US on my mums side.
Just like you are an American by way of Ireland and who knows where else...:p

My wife did the final read through/edit and she 'fixed' all of my spelling 'mistakes'.:CRY: She does give me a hard time about my proper English spelling every so often, but I return the favour regarding her occasional Bahstan accent (I don't have it - and despite having lived all my life here I can't even imitate it well enough to fool a local).

:LOL:

Hey Steve,

Where is my gold script autograph? :LOL: That was a good article as I said before and interesting even though I have never owned a Corvette, I do like them. I believe there is so much written about Cobras that it is hard to come up with something original to get it published. ;)

Ron :)

Thanks Wes, and everyone else as well. I think that the forum is mostly comprised of decent and honourable people. Despite my tooth and nail approach to arguments I have no ill will towards anybody here.

I have a pet project that involves the old Cheetahs that were supposed to be the Chevy version of the Cobra. They never did very well, and they only made about 12 or so. They were quite a bit more brutal than a Cobra, though. Who knows...maybe I'll get something published about them as well...:JEKYLHYDE

You could save SO much time by dropping all the excess letterage. BTW, why did your article contain no such alphabetical decoration? (never mind, I read your post)

I'm working on the autograph...It takes time to build a smelt, design a pen that can write in liquid gold, and hunt down the perfect bit of wood.:)

I've had a couple of ideas for Cobra articles/books that Dave Friedman has actually not done. The Cobra community is a much tougher nut to crack, though, as a lot less Cobra enthusiasts seem to care about the historical aspects of the cars. The SAAC is really the only torch bearer in that regard (though we will see how Shelby does on this aspect soon). There are a half dozen mags about Corvettes that I can think of off the top of my head, but only 1 magazine about Cobras (originals - not replicas), and that seems to be published only when SAAC feels like it.

But that would give you one less thing to complain about - sorry, but I don't like to ruin anyones fun...even yours!:LOL:

Steve,

I belonged to the SAAC for a few years and then quit. They published a magazine called Driven that was pretty good and I have all of my old copies. It was monthly and had a lot of good information in it. But it seemed to me they were moving more and more away from real information and into promoting races that they would be having and such. I did learn a lot from them though and the races they had at Thunder Hill were well organized. Then my health went down hill and I quit going even for open track, so I just quit the club. Also, and I have nothing at all against making the cars as safe as possible, but by the time I quit they had gotten the rules to where you almost had to have a full race car even for the open track events which were supposed to be fun. So I sold all of my racing stuff including tires and wheels except for the helmet which I missed, and it isn't legal now.

I really think that SAAC is missing the boat in a number of ways, but they also have some really good resources and knowledge base that nobody else has. I have considered writing for their mag, but I am not really fond of the idea that the SAAC guys make a bunch of loot from SAAC, but do not compensate contributors in some way.

The Cobra site that Computerworks and Kris Kinkaid have is a good concept, but it is a little too tightly controlled and irregularly updated for my tastes.

I would love to take the best elements of SAAC and somehow combine them with the best elements of the NCRS (National Corvette Restoration Society). Maybe someday when I have enough time I'll do it myself...:JEKYLHYDE **)

Ron61 11-20-2007 12:38 PM

:LOL:

Gee, Steve, do you mean the Corvette society has any good elements? :LOL:

Some guy that has a newer corvette, a 2003 I think it is, sent me this.

C = Cracks
O = Often
R = Rattles
V = Violently
E = Eventually
T = Turns
T = To
E = Excretement.

I am sure that has been around a long time, but we were talking about cars and he liked my 69 a lot with the Fix Or Repair Daily letters on the front.

congrats on the article. It was a very nice read.

Not to sidetrack the thread, but I am one of the new guys who does not really know anything about the history of any of these cars. I have always loved the muscle and sport cars, but my family has never really been into racing or anything other than practical uses for cars. The Cobra is my ultimate dream and i will own a replica one day. I have decided that I want the replica primarily to drive it. I won't worry about wrecking an ever increasing valued car. I still would like to learn about the history of the cobra as well. Of course I know the basics of the AC - Shelby etc. It wasn't until this site that I learned about the AC Ace, Bristol and how the body came about being designed to resemble the Ferrari.

Ron61 11-20-2007 01:41 PM

:)

Joe,

This site has more knowledgeable people about all types of cars than any other I am on. Note Steve's knowledge of Corvettes. I have had help with my 65 Comet from people who knew just what the problem was. I belong to the Fairlane Club Of America and they charge dues and you can't get any type of answer unless you are in one of the little groups. I stay in it only because of the magazine they publish. Also you have to own a car to be a member. They will accept a 1964 and 1966 comet but won't accept a 1965 comet like mine. Here there is always someone who is willing to help no matter what car or problem you have.

Ron :)

I would like to see more on the Cheetah. From what little I think I remember, it was the last hurrah design for rear driver cars with the driver pretty much sitting above the rear axle. It had wonderful potential but was never sorted out before the front driver mid-engined cars killed it along with the Cobra. I think somebody still offers a replica but it will take a bit to remember his name.
