Haha... I've watched my boys practice on the outdoor rinks when it's well below zero not counting the windchill... The cold is not great... but I will admit ...there's something about being outside in the dark.. under lights/ice.. it's very Charlie Brown-ish... and honestly... no matter what people say.. there is nothing better than to watch my son score a goal and look for me in the stands. On the most part -- we're rather civilzed here in the north...  someone got smart.. and built rinks in pole-barns... then a woman decided to add heat..
