How's Global Warming Working For You ?
Russians Brace For The Big Chill
January 16, 2008 8:18 p.m. EST
Jupiter Kalambakal - AHN News Writer
Moscow, Russia (AHN) - Russians are bracing for temperatures of as low as minus 55 degrees Celsius (minus 67 degrees Fahrenheit) in Siberia as Russia's emergencies ministry warns on Wednesday of its impending dangers in the coming weeks.
Government agencies were placed on high alert, reports AFP. The ministry ordered local administration officials to prepare for the extreme chill expected to last until Jan. 21.
The ministry warned that the unusually cold weather could kill, cause frost-bite, conk heaters and cut electricity to homes, disrupt transport, increase the rate of car accidents and even destroy buildings across Siberia.
The freezing temperatures have already caused overloading of electricity grids and power interruptions in the regions of Irkutsk and Tomsk because of overused heaters in homes. Two people have already died and more than 30 others hospitalized with forst-bite in Irkutsk, reports AFP citing state media.
Bloomberg reports that worst hit will be the Siberian region of Evenkiya, while neighbor Georgia, whose climate is subtropical, already plunged to as low as minus 35 degrees Celsius. Lake Paliastomi in the western Georgia froze for the first time in 50 years, reports Rustavi-2 television.
Schools have been closed down in at least four regions because of the cold.

I heard there was some big global warming convention in New England a week or two ago that the Enviornmentalists couldn't get to because the snow was so deep.

Isn't it odd that NBC goe's crazy with the Green crap and there owned by GE who can't wait to capitalize on those who believe the B/S.
The warmest year on record was around 103 years ago. FOLLOW THE MONEY!

Fred,
Read my post of this mornings weather forecast for here near the bottom of the page in this thread. Really sounds as if it is going to be hot here.

Fred, The latest follow up on that is the wind from the Gulf of Alaska will be here tomorrow with a chance of rain at times. Snow isn't supposed to amount to much but a possible wind chill factor of around 10 degrees. And I stress possible. With the way our weather is, it may be 80 degrees tomorrow and people will be running their air conditioners. The only thing I have noticed really is that we seem to have a little more humidity here in the Summers than we did 20 years ago so a 118 degree day6 has a heat index of around 125. And we had a few more of them than last year, but that is just normal as some years we have a week or so of it and other years just scattered days. It is the humidity that I have noticed which seems to be on a slow but constant rise here. The heat is bad enough, but throw in some humidity and it is worse for old farts like me.

...
Global Warming was working great. A few days ago, I was working in a tee-shirt helping a buddy tear down a 36'x72' metal building he got for free... if he can move it in time.
Then a couple of days ago, it rained on what was left of the roof, froze, and then snowed on top of the ice. Then the temp dropped to -14 F.
At least it's above zero now. Every bone in my body hurts. It didn't hurt like this in my 50's and I never even fell this time.

Wes,
It isn't anywhere nearly that cold here, but we had ice everywhere this morning and now it is up to around 52° here and NO WIND. But it is overcast and getting darker and they say we may have some light showers.

A very balmy 22°F here at halftime.
Go Pats.
Yesterday at Oymyakon, Russia, one of the great tourist meccas of the world, the recorded low temperature was
minus 76°F.

I saw that temperature on the news and thought it is a good thing we don't have that here.
The Pats. aren't having it as easy as I thought they would.

Yea Pats
1 more to go!
I used to be a Giants fan way back when because they were always on TV in the Boston area, even b/4 the Pats. But that changed.
So I should be cheering for the Giants over GB. Sorry
Go Green Bay. Don't do a Tampa Bay on us
I hear ya Tru. Its 21°F now at 6:30 with temp overnight forecast at 6°F.

Global warming has done terrible things to the L.A. freeway system. Sales of the Toyota Prius were high (as were, probably, the buyers...) and now all those people are getting on the freeways and screaming along at a blistering 50 mpg.
Used to be if there was a traffic jam there was an accident. Nowadays, the only thing you'll find at the beginning of a traffic jam is a Toyota Prius.
Your pal,
Meat.

Meat,
You need cameras to catch people driving at unsafe SLOW speeds. I haven't been down there for years, but even then I could imagine what some person doing 50 would create behind him. Up here it seems the 18 wheelers like to drive side by side and block traffic while they chat on their radios. They will back traffic up behind them for miles and when you suddenly see a lane start to move you know a CHP car has been spotted and one of the trucks has pulled back into the slow lanes to let traffic by. This is as bad as the stuff you have, but is not called for as they can pass each other and go on at the speed limit. I have gotten to the point I like to see one of them pulled over and the CHP is doing it. We just don't have enough to patrol all the roads up here as it is so scattered out and there are long stretches of I-5 for one CHP officer to patrol.

Wow,
Another severe weather warning for here this morning. Snow level could drop to 1,000 feet which is just above the dam. It is cold as all get out but I haven't gone out to look at my thermometer as I will wait until it gets light enough to see. Must be overcast as black as it is.
