FDR did not set the two-term limit for the President of the US. He was dead when that occurred, and only Congress can pass such legislation. It was enacted by Congress and signed by President Truman in response to FDR's unprecedented 4 terms.

Ronbo is right. With term limits, you end up with a bunch or rookies, who barely figure out where the bathroom is, before they are out. A bunch of elected rookies are also more likely to be very dangerous in terms of passing legislation with unintended consequences. Sometimes, doing nothing is better than something damaging out of ignorance.

Clay,

I will bow to your correction of my wrong statement about the president. He did die during the war and Truman took over just as you stated and he signed the bill limiting presidents terms. But so far as term limits go we have had them for years and are no worse off than the country which only has them for the president. If they are so bad, why not do away with those for the president also? The jerks in Washington have been doing nothing for so many years that I really don't see any way out of the mess we are in. Of course once they give the rest of the country away none of this will matter.

Edited To correct spelling.
