Default Max Speed

I was driving along and before you know it, I finally hit my car's maximum speed using overdrive. My Garmin GPS recorded it.

Well, I was board on my flight back to NJ so I turned on my GPS unit. Interesting to see the flight speed, etc.

Hmmmmmmmmm

467 MPH in a Cobra? Engine must have been turning 74,000 RPM.

74,000-75,000 whatever it takes. As long as you don't do it for a long period of time it's OK.

That IS interesting. I could not get my GPS to pick up signal last time I was on a plane (Hawaii). Thats pretty cool.

Question

Jams,

Did they question you about taking your GPS unit on the flight? I keep hearing rumors about you can't take anything such as a calculator but I know people that take laptops so none of really made sense. It has been so long since I have flown that I don't even know what you can carry on and what you can check any more. I called the little airport here some time back to check and got several different answers.

Ron

All the recent flights I've been on they allow most any electronics on the plane and inside the cabin. The rule is to have all the items shut down during take-off...due to radio interference with the planes electronics from cell phones and such. After 10,000ft everything is golden and your able to turn on your computer and such.

Ron,

As spf mentioned you can take just about any electronic device. When going through security you must take all devices out of their case(s) and send them through the screening machine, x-ray or whatever they use now-a-days. I have taken digital cameras, video cameras, cell phones, Palm Pilots and my GPS. Never any problem.

It's my damned airplane, so I should be able to take on whatever I want ... as long as I make sure the weight and balance checks out.

Your pal,
Meat.
