...and, therefore, Munich was a philosophical group hug to be followed by a promised helicopter ride.
A raised fist, a boycott, assualts on torch runners, or blowing up some atheletes...no lines to be drawn anywhere?
Interesting discussion, BTW. We're looking at it from Westernized-First Amendment-60's Protests eyes...the rest of the world sees things a bit differently.

Not ... Even ... Close.
Clearly, you have no idea what you're talking about. You've written yourself into quite a corner.

Maybe if all those Olympic Torches running around the world weren't such a major cause of Global Warming, the protesters won't be so rightously upset.

I've had some interesting discussions with Chinese on many sides of the fences. Most of it regarded Taiwan/Formosa/ROC, but conversation sometimes strayed to Tibet.
They view the matter as an internal Chinese problem, and nobody outside of their own borders has any business getting involved. It is also irrelevant to them if the people in Taiwan or Tibet do not want to be Chinese. Self determination is not a concept that is easily understood or accepted in the PRC.
There is also some level of dislike by the PRC of the US for our involvement in Tibet back in the 50's.

There is some level of dislike by the PRC of the US for anything you can name. IMHO Tibet isn't worth messing with.

Ron! How COULD you say such a thing!!!
A religious icon adored by Hollywood and the MSM; poor, disadvantaged tribal peoples being opressed by a ruthless regime and absolutely NO strategic U.S. interests add up to a war the left can get behind with gusto (as long as nobody gets hurt)! Same thing in Darfur! These REQUIRE US intervention!
Now, Iraq...
Now THATS different!!!

Its a MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD World!!

Is there any oil in Tibet? That seems to be the litmus test for Dubbya and Dick. If the answer is "yes" we can probably bring the hydrocarbons out, over the Himalayas on the backs of yaks, on a cost effective basis, assuming $4.00 per gallon for gas. Somehow I think we've bitten off enough with Tibet's neighbors in Afghanistan, we don't need anymore "adventures" right now, especially when we are outnumbered, by a couple billion!

Naah. It's only a "litmus test" for liberals who seek to blame others for their incomptence, their lack of leadership, their facist-like power grab that has only resulted in even more exposure for them of being idiots, and their stupidity.
There's nothing more irrelevent, incompetent or immoral than a liberal ... except for a liberal who uses terms like 'Dubbya' or who believes that the only reason anyone should go after something is if oil is involved.
If it were about oil, we would be drilling deep in the U.S.; we've got far more in the way of oil reserves than the rest of world. If it were about oil, we would have long ago removed the EPA. If it were about oil, we would have invaded a certain south american country, rather than run off to the middle east.
It's so cute when a liberal tries to be relevant and pretend he knows what's going on in the world.

Yeah ... that's why we hear about how we're losing in Afghanistan every night, and there's a running tally of the body count of American troops lost in Afghanistan on CNN every night, and ...
Oh, wait. There's not.
Somehow ... you're wrong.

WOW...Meat, please don't take this the wrong way, but you are one pi$$ed off guy about life in general! Do you ever lighten up about ANYTHING? It seems that all the 'rants' in here are like a red rag to a bull for you! We're all 'Dust in the wind" anyhow, and in the long scope of history, nothing really matters THIS much!
Tread carefully up there, it's a long fall from the lofty 'bully pulpit'!
