America's Allure Falls For Mexicans
This was the heading of an article in yesterdays Redding Paper. Just a short part of the article.
The sandy streets of Sasabe are empty. Migrant smugglers have to hunt for business at border town shelters. A U.S. crackdown and the downturn of the economy are causing less people to try and sneak into the U.S. and the ones that do are willing to go home without any argument. Mexicans in the U.S. are sending less money home now.
As a result, Grupo Beta, the Mexican government's migrant rescue group has seen a 257% increase in the number of people seeking discounted bus tickets home this year.
Adolfo Vasquez, a 41 year old corn farmer from Mexico, picked fruit in Washington State the last three years. This year he said they are going to Los Cabos or Tijuana. We hear there is there work there he said.
