To me a good place to stop would be making the notes a different size. It just seems strange that all our coins are different, but all our notes are the same.
"Is there a real problem with people ripping off blind folks?" - down here I'd bet yes. I've had the "no you only gave me a 10" game played on me a lot of times. The thing is when they hand over what they know is a 20 for a $5 purchase how do they know the 3 notes they get back are 5's and not 1's. They can tell the coinage for sure. What are they to do if they think they're getting ripped off? Ask the clerk if they are honest? Call the police?
Cobrabill - could not agree with you more about "Lawyers, the media,PETA & tree-huggers being more of a threat to this country than bin laden will ever be.
Therein lies the root causes of our symptomatic problems.

About 6 months ago I pulled into a local shop, and a young girl about 25 years old pulled into the one handicapped space. Her car did not have the "tag" on the rear view mirror, and she was not "physically handicapped".
As she got out of the car and started walking into the store, I held open the door for her and said "Is your handicap mental or physical?" She looked at me, turned around, and moved her car. She did not say anything.

I've been tempted a few times - but the car has always had the tag. Person was not, however, disabled - just taking advantage of the system

Fred,
Thanks, The last years of his life were hell on earth for sure.
I really don't see the problem here. It is not like blind people are saying "make the damn money talk and then give it to me" They are simply asking for help in dealing with an issue that is real to them. If we as Americans, aren't man enough to help someone who genuinely needs it then we are all doomed to spend eternity in hell.
I am not saying we need to give away the farm to any lowlife that wont get off his a$$. We have enough of those. This is a problem with a simple solution. One day, at one time or another every single person on this earth will need someone to help them. I just hope the person you ask for help is not so self centered they would not help a little old lady across the street!

Warren,
I had a good chuckle. I had to write that one down. I need it for the grocery store every time I go.

You know they could always put brail on the american money like the canadians do... I know the states are a little behind on their currency, took them long enough to actually put some color on the bills...

I have a simplier answer
I have raise 8 Seeing eye dogs for the blind when I was a 4-H member it was fun and sad when the dogs turned 1 and went back to Seeing Eye for training and if lucky there new home for their lives. If everyone was honest here would be no need for this money change. Only crapheads would rip off blind or handycapped people. The lawyers are also not helping with there lawsuits on this. They could add more embossments so a blind person could feel the differents. We have a kid that is 13 years old and 2 years ago he was hit with a baseball in the chest from pitching and is now a quad. His parents are now sueing, the league, bat company for an aluminium bat, the coaches, and the family who's son hit the ball. Here's another case of who's fault is when every parent whos there is a chance of the kid getting seriously hurt from sports. 87 kids where killed last year from baseball leagues alone. Wood bats are just as bad as aluminium bats, one break and becomes a spear, the other lets you hit a ball another 20-40ft from design. They banded titanium bats from our softball leagues. Unlimited pitch gave you time to step back 5-10ft before the ball got to the plate. It still was not enough time to set for the line drives come back up the middle. Parents need to think twice about putting kids in sports and know that it is possible their kids can be seriously hurt or killed and sign a contract releasing other's from this kind of lawsuit. Sleaszy lawyer looking for money in his pocket. All the money if any won should go to the family for care for this child. Insurance policy for a million dollars needs to be added to all leagues. This will and should be the price any parent or children to pay any sport in the future. When I was growing up, I recieved, 1 broken hip, broken wraist(3 times), dislocated shoulder, 3 broken ribs, cracked chest plate, 3 concusions, and over 300 stitches for cuts. Horses are a wonderful thing. We never sued anyone for this, today you look funny and everyone sueing someone. The country has been sold again, to China. maybe they will sue for us not paying our bills. Rick L

Note PORTOMAN (post below yours) has just pointed out that we have just gotten done with a costly revamp of U.S. currency.
Printing must be more expensive than I thought. A small local restaurant said on the news, that it will cost them $3000 to print new menu's. They probably have 100 of them at most (my guess). The reason for the new menu's? They have to raise their prices because food is going up. Apparently the cost of new menu's is going up too. Great opportunity for fleecing consumers, I'd say.

Scott,
I don't see why something like that would not work.
I don't think the blind people are asking us to stop right now and design and print new currency. It could be done progressively as they new bills are printed. The old ones could be replaced with the new ones.
I am also not saying that is the only possible answer, hell I am not that close minded. I think the real problem here is not that blind people could use some assistance with this issue but that the jacka$$ lawyers are going about it wrong. As usual.

For those of you who blame the lawyers for this suit, you are obviously too blind to read the link and note that the American Council for the Blind hired the attorneys to bring the action.
I'm sure when you hit your fingers while nailing that it is the hammer's fault.
Personally, I think the handicap discrimination area of law has gone beyond assinine. A couple of years ago, a union school bus driver who had recently become legally blind sued the school district that terminated her on that basis to force it to reinstate her and station another driver in the first row behind her as a "reasonable accomodation." Thankfully, the court said no.
I'm wondering what else we can do to make our currency mo betta for everyone.
I'm sure Latinos would like the reverse printed in Spanish, maybe with a pic of Zapata and the Mexican flag? (Feel free to insert other cultural groups/languages.)
We've already had attacks against religious phrases ("In God We Trust"), maybe some folks don't like the pyramid or the "all seeing eye." I'm concerned about that last thing...I'm thinking it's anti-Hobbit.
How about a warning: "Handling currency which has been in circulation may be hazardous to your health."
Maybe we need an audio chip implanted for the morons who don't know how to handle their money: "Are you really really sure you need whatever you are using me to pay for?"
Added:
A little bungie attached to each bill for those who are bipolar.
A reverse image/text on the back for dixlexic folks.

What's the answer, and how do we stop it???
Jamo Lawyers are partial to blame. They are in the only job in which they make the rules through politicians, which alot are both, and may leave loop holes for ways to earn a dollar. This country needs to go back to the old days, everyone has a gun. This will increase respect for all. If you have a problem go outside and put your gun where your mouth is. If you react faster and hit the other guy first, it's over. No sueing for wrongfull death. It will take a couple of years for the smoke to blow over. In the long run, a lot better people will be standing in the end. We have 10 commandments from the bible and how many in the basic constitution. John Wayne laws too. I will not be insulted, I will not have a hand layed apond me, I don't do this to other and expect the same. Works for me. Again how do you stop this??? Rick L. Ps we have on TV more lawyers telling anyone we will sue if you have an accident, fall, or are just plain stupid. Some one will pay.
