Exxon continues to screw Alaskans !
I'm so,oooo mad with Exxon, our court system and Government !
Exxon has a dept with Alaska and the residents and with the aid of our Government, will probably end up paying NOTHING for the spill in Valdez.
Please read what has been reported below.
There's an article in the paper today that says that the Supreme court has reduced the punitive damages from the Exxon Valdez from 2.5 billion to 500 million dollars. Says that the 2.5 billion was reduced from the 5 billion initially awarded. If Exxon keeps appealing, Alaska is going to wind up owing them money! The article says that means that instead of 75,000 for each person directly affected by the spill they will now get 13,000. With inflation, $13,000 after twenty years isn't worth much! I think the company is deliberately doing this so the people it has to pays is dead before anyone gets a dime. It also mentioned that 2.5 billion dollars is only 4 days worth of last year's profits! How can a company hold it's head up after raping the wilderness! People should be very outraged over this and not let this happen. I guess all the environmentalists were right back then that said that the company would never pay!
(From my brother in law)
I hate to admit it but my cousin works for Exxon/Mobil.
Here is what the court just did. They allowed a company that made $40 BILLION last year to walk away from their responsibility in screwing up lives and the environment by reducing the award by 80 percent.
The Court just told Big Business, it's OK to screw the world. !!!!!!
Do you think, oil company's are too powerful ? YES !

after writing two responses, deleting them, and breathing a little....
I am glad to read that your cousin works for a profitable job providing company. He's fortunate.
Yeah it is amazing the damage that spill caused on the Kenai river... why those fishermen were so hurt by the lack of a run, they let their hauls rot on the dock when the price no longer became profitable. Yes, the Koho just never recovered.
One may note, that even the (not too be insulting )"liberal" (I don't believe there is a liberal enough term to describe that type of liberalism) 9th silly circus thought the punitive damages were excessive.
I can't believe anyone who hates Exxon so much would be remotely involved with anything which consumes or touches gasoline or uses crude in any way, including an internet connection, yes they are related)
