Texas Teacher's packing guns this Fall
Texas school district to let teachers carry guns
HOUSTON (Reuters) - A Texas school district will let teachers bring guns to class this fall, the district's superintendent said on Friday, in what experts said appeared to be a first in the United States. The board of the small rural Harrold Independent School District unanimously approved the plan and parents have not objected, said the district's superintendent, David Thweatt. School experts backed Thweatt's claim that Harrold, a system of about 110 students 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth, may be the first to let teachers bring guns to the classroom. Thweatt said it is a matter of safety "We have a lock-down situation, we have cameras, but the question we had to answer is, 'What if somebody gets in? What are we going to do?" he said. "It's just common sense." Teachers who wish to bring guns will have to be certified to carry a concealed handgun in Texas and get crisis training and permission from school officials, he said. Recent school shootings in the United States have prompted some calls for school officials to allow students and teachers to carry legally concealed weapons into classrooms. The U.S. Congress once barred guns at schools nationwide, but the U.S. Supreme Court struck the law down, although state and local communities could adopt their own laws. Texas bars guns at schools without the school's permission. hell i won a turkey in the 'ROTC' turkey shoot at thanksgiving when i was in high school.
we all know how to shoot in big TEX!! :D dang right! |
Sounds like the folks in that school district have figured out a way to keep the nasty little 'stards in line.
|
My Texas high school experience had guns galore.
I was on an ROTC rifle team in Central Texas back in the late 70's. I would commute to and from school daily on the bus with an Anschutz target rifle and rimfire ammunition. I would shoot at the school's armory before school, during class, and after school. http://www.championshooters.com/imag.../1907-4759.JPG Given the present politically correct mindset, it almost seems like I grew up in some alternate reality. |
And nobody (ACLU) is suing them? Where's the popcorn, this is going to be fun to watch!

I showed how to properly clean a Model 70 Winchester( it was loaded with 3 rounds and one in the chamber) and got an A for the quarter. The next quarter I showed how to break down and repair a 20 inch split rim truck tire. I bet the marks on the floor are still there:LOL: Scott S |
Teachers get assaulted here in some of the rough areas regularly.
Hopefully this will make some of the attackers think twice. Thank GOD our children are home schooled. My son is 11 and he knows how to handle a weapon. Well at least a rifle and shotgun. I have not put a pistol in his hands yet, but rest assured it won't long and I will. |
Our Gov. Rick Perry endorsed it today saying....
Gun-Toting Teachers "There's a lot of incidents where that would have saved a number of lives...I'm pretty much a fan that if you've been trained,if you are registered, then you ought to be able to carry a weapon." "School Districts should decide own gun rules." The School Superintendent of the District said... "If the good guys have guns, the bad guys do less damage." |
The only thing that bothers me, is the thought of some kid taking it from one of the female teachers. Training might help, I hope so.
|
Perry,
That's the thing about Concealed Carry, how are the students or anybody else going to know ? Showing or printing your weapon will get your CHL revoked and criminal charges. |
Wouldn't the kids assume Miss magilacuty is packing?. just a scenario I thought about.
|
That is where the bad guy is at a disadvantage, they can only guess.
To the point of a kid deciding it would be a good idea to jump a teacher and see if she has a gun or not, then take it if there is....that "kid" would be on the fast track to being dead as far as I'm concerned. You can't allow your weapon to be taken from you...kid or not. |
When the good guys carry. The bad guys are not so brave. Because they are cowards to begin with. The pack mentality pi$$e$ me off.
|
Read Obama's 10 point plan and no one but the bad guys will have guns of any kind. He even wants to ban the making of them in this country. Ron |
There was a teacher attached here last year at school by a student. She is still in a comma in a Dallas Hospital. He outlook is not good. There were other teachers close but could not get to the student in time to stop the attack.
It was all caught on the schools security camera and the kids face is plain as day. Many close to the attack personally knew the attacker and identified him as being the attacker. Can you BOOOOOOOOOOM! The problem ends today. Kid or no kid, when you commit adult crimes you are an adult and should pay just as an adult would, he has been in fights in the past and put several kids in the hospital. Why is he still allowed to go to school? |
The school system is funded by how many kids attend class. To kick the little p*ick out woul cut their funding. Add them up (10-20 kids ) and the impact to the budget is large.
The admin. would rather have the money!! Leads you to the answer to the question, What is a teachers life worth? Not much!!! |
