Steve,

Now that Fred is a legal citizen they are probably monitoring his e-mails. He was better off while he was illegal.

Ron

You should have pictures.

If I hadn't shown up with a Birth Cert. I'm Not sure what would have happened.

I got a form in the mail tuesday saying I could renew by internet, phone or mail.
Cool. I go onto the internet last Tuesday evening and type in what they ask for.
NO !! You are ineligable !
Tried it several more times.I mean, they sent this to me and now I cannot.

Called the phone number and punched in the info again.
NO !!! You are ineligable !
Did it several more times. Nope !

So I call another number on the form to talk to a live person. He says to "call the DPS ,they must want something."

I call Wednesday morning,8 am.
Person #1 - Looked over my driving records several times and kept saying how she couldn't see anything wrong.
Then after about 10 minutes and her putting me on hold a couple of times to ask for help....SHE FINDS IT.

"YOU'RE LISTED AS A NON-CITIZEN"

I was a little surprised.

She says "You don't sound like a Non-Citizen".
I told her thanks.

She passes me off to Person #2 .
#2 doesn't have a clue about #1 and my last 15 minutes discussion...so I get to tell my story again.

She is able to go back to when I was 14 years old,45 years ago,and see when I first got my license.Motorcycle Only.
She sees I haven't had so much as a parking ticket in almost 25 years.
Says we need more drivers in Texas like you.I tell her thanks,so how about renewing my license then.
She also sees that I have a CHL and confirms you have to be a U.S. Citizen to start with.
Says she can't help,I need to bring in a Birth Cert. and prove I'm a citizen.

#2 passes me on to #3

Get to retell the same Dam* story for the third time !

It gets to the point very quickly that she has as much use for me as I do for her.

" If you want your license renewed you have to drag your Non-Citizen a$$ into the DPS Office and prove you aren't a Non-Citizen."

The discussion started to quickly accelerate downhill.

I dragged my "Non-Citizen a$$ into the DPS" with my Birth Cert..

I have already posted my discussion with Ms. Garcia.

If you had truly been a non-citizen, she would have given what you asked for immediately, had you asked her in Spanish.

Fred,

You are starting to make me nervous. I may just switch my primary
residency to Texas in the future and coming from Hawaii this may pose a
problem. My only saving grace may be the fact that I was born in Colorado
so I may have a chance. Based on what you have been experiencing i think
there is a good chance that there are some there in the DPS that don't know
Hawaii is a state and may consider me a non-citizen also. I do have a valid
birth certificate so I better make sure I take it to Texas when the time comes.
I am getting tired of paying state income tax here to support the unions and
in the future fixed rail if that should be shoved through.

signed,

Nervous in Hawaii

ps - what a marathon they ran you through - our public servants at their best.

Flip,
Yes,bring your Birth Cert..

I found the paper work from 2002,the year I became a Non-Citizen,for my license renewal.
The box for 'Yes" or "No" was checked "YES" - I'm a citizen.

Last Febuary I traded in my 7 month old Harley for another,at the Harley dealership. They did all the paperwork and hand carry it down to the proper tax people,etc..

About a month later I received the Title for my new bike.

My last name was spelled wrong, had a extra letter in it.I called the DPS about the problem. They said no problem - send it back with some money and a copy of your Driver's License. We will be glad to fix it.
I tried to explain that the problem wasn't on my end because it has been a very long time since I misspelled my own last name - all 4 letters of it.

She repeated herself like Ms. Garcia did Wednesday. Must be a job requirement.

I returned to the Dealer and showed them the problem. He said if it's our problem we will pay for it.If it's their's ,they get to pay for it. I handed it to him and went for a ride.

A month later a good Title showed up,everything correct.:)

I was by the Dealership later that week and asked James who got to pay for it.
The DPS paid.

I had already figured out how the mistake was made before I had called the DPS.
The correct letter "u" and the extra letter "i" are next to one another on the keyboard.

FAT FINGERS.
