Buffett, Powell, & Ernie
I have had my head in the bilges for the past couple of days, so I haven't been here. I am trying to ready Imagine for passage from Florida to S.E. Asia in the near future.
I am wondering what those from the right are thinking about Powell & Buffett in the Obama camp? As always politics make strange bedfellows. Oh yeah, just because you're from the right. That doesn't always mean you are correct. One last thing.... what did you guys do with Ernie? Is he buried in the backyard somewhere:eek::confused::D |
The subjects are taking their act on the road, the New Three Stooges.
By the way, Buffett's also giving away all his money through Gates - he's clearly a great investor but just a little strange as well. |
I don't give a rat's rear end how any other person (especially a celebrity - including politicians, actors, sports stars or famous business people) either endorses or votes for. They are stupid on both sides of the aisle.

CDC, You have no comment on our warrior Mr. Powell. I think Bush turned him sour on being a republican. I will say this about the man. He did leave with honor without bashing GW. Powell could have gotten my vote anytime!;) |
Buffett wants to repeal one of the greatest legislative achievements of all time.. Prop 13.
http://www.wealthandwant.com/docs/Buffett_Prop13.html He is all for redistribution of wealth, as he has afforded legal loophole protection for his own. Powell? the biggest irony of all.... from the other thread... Irony = having a war promoter in an administration opposed to war. 10/20/08 http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10...dministration/ "WASHINGTON -- Colin Powell will have a role as a top presidential adviser in an Obama administration, the Democratic White House hopeful said Monday." http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10...ndorses-obama/ "Colin Powell, the man who delivered to the United Nations the U.S. case for war against Iraq, announced Sunday that he is going to vote for Barack Obama for president. " Political stance: from Obama's website http://www.barackobama.com/issues/iraq/ "Barack Obama opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning. " |
If you saw him on 'meet the press', that, by all counts was a 'strained' endorsement if I ever saw one. He knew he was between a rock and hard place and I didn't buy it, especially after that loooooooong explanation. More of a revenge play on his tenure with the bush adm..
No big deal since he's been silent for 4 years.............. |

...I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it. Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems. And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending. Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals. |
Something's wrong.
Steve normally has all the answers. ;) |
FWB,
I could (and have) said the same thing about Bush. Having more enemies (and making new ones) than friends is also not in our national security interests either. Rummy wanted to shrink the military as do everything with small fast forces. We need both the scalpel and the sledghammer. And actually, Obama wants to increase the Army and Marines by 65 and 27K respectively, as well as replacing some of the older ships in the Navy. He does also want to review weapons programs. Steve |

It wasn't a compliment.
2ndly, obviously the question posed was not a question at all. It was nothing more than a feeble attempt at posturing brilliance, IOW attempting a set-up. How come ignore list doesn't ban comments in email notifications? |
BO statements...............
...I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.Against Iraq, fine, but we will need to stay in Afghanistan for a while longer. Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. Good - there are lots of place in government that this should happen. So I'm guessing you are in favour of wasteful spending!?! Makes sense - your party has managed to grow government and double the national debt in just 7 years, so i shouldn't be surprised. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. If anybody hits us with missiles we will know where they came from and we will be able to obliterate them in return. This is the essence of MAD. We should use this money to develop better detection for WMD entering the borders. I will not weaponize space.Good - they violate a treaty we signed. Congress can change this if they want. I will slow our development of future combat systems. Bad - WTF is he thinking!?! And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending. On the fence - this could go either way, depending on the level of objectivity of the people on the board. Bad - WMD is a good deterrent against a first strike of both conventional and WMD. Having nukes on hair trigger alert is not good, though. |
It wasn't a compliment.
I suspected that. And I really don't care.:p 2ndly, obviously the question posed was not a question at all. It was nothing more than a feeble attempt at posturing brilliance, IOW attempting a set-up. It was a question, but the choice of answer was up to CdC (or anybody else who wanted to chime in). If CdC posted yet another bunch of propaganda, then I would respond accordingly. He instead responded with a legit (hopefully - I will take him at his word on this) list of Obama quotes and I put my personal assessment of each for him (or anybody) to either insult me or offer their own evaluation. How come ignore list doesn't ban comments in email notifications? No bloody idea..(though I know this will disappoint my fans who think I know everything:p:LOL:). |
Steve, Don't feel bad. I don't think your fan will be disappointed that you don't know everything. Heck, both of us can't both know everything and disagree on somethings. I do like your answers and agree with them. With Russia increasing and updating their nuclear arsenal, and building new missile subs, I think we should be doing something to update our outdated weapons. Ron :) |

I have to disagree with this. Prop 13 left the state without much needed resources. How do you think the fire dept gets paid, or any other dept. It was all about.....Hey I have got my foot in the door. Don't tax me! JUST TAX EVERONE ELSE AFTER ME..............%/ |
