Across the electric wires, the hum is ceaseless: Give it up, loser. Don’t go down with the ship when it’s swept away by the Obama tsunami. According to newspaper reports, polls show that most people believe newspaper reports claiming that most people believe polls showing that most people have read newspaper reports agreeing that polls show he’s going to win.

In the words of Publishers’ Clearing House, he may already have won! The battleground states have all turned blue, the reddest of red states are rapidly purpling. Don’t you know, little fool? You never can win. Use your mentality, wake up to reality. Why be the last right-wing pundit to sign up with Small-Government Conservatives For The Liberal Supermajority? We still need pages for the coronation, and there’s a pair of velvet knickerbockers with your name on it.

Yes, technically, this is still a two-party state, but one of the parties is like Elton John’s post-Oscar bash and the other is a church social in Wasilla. As David Sedaris put it in The New Yorker:

“I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. ‘Can I interest you in the chicken?’ she asks. ‘Or would you prefer the platter of s—t with bits of broken glass in it?’

“To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.”

Well, to be honest, I’ve never much cared for chicken.

McCain vs Obama is not the choice many of us would have liked in an ideal world. But then it’s not an “ideal world”, and the belief that it can be made so is one of the things that separates those who think Obama will “heal the planet” and those of us who support McCain faute de mieux. I agree with Thomas Sowell that an Obama-Pelosi supermajority will mark what he calls “a point of no return”. It would not be, as some naysayers scoff, “Jimmy Carter’s second term”, but something far more transformative. The new president would front the fourth great wave of liberal annexation — the first being FDR’s New Deal, the second LBJ’s Great Society, and the third the incremental but remorseless cultural advance when Reagan conservatives began winning victories at the ballot box and liberals turned their attention to the other levers of the society, from grade school up. The terrorist educator William Ayers, Obama’s patron in Chicago, is an exemplar of the last model: forty years ago, he was in favor of blowing up public buildings; then he figured out it was easier to get inside and undermine them from within.

All three liberal waves have transformed American expectations of the state. The spirit of the age is: Ask not what your country can do for you, demand it. Why can’t the government sort out my health care? Why can’t they pick up my mortgage?

In his first inaugural address, Calvin Coolidge said: “I favor the policy of economy, not because I wish to save money, but because I wish to save people.” That’s true in a more profound sense than he could have foreseen. In Europe, lavish social-democratic government has transformed citizens into eternal wards of the nanny state: the bureaucracy’s assumption of every adult responsibility has severed Continentals from the most basic survival impulse, to the point where unaffordable entitlements on shriveled birth rates have put a question mark over some of the oldest nation states on earth. A vote for an Obama-Pelosi-Barney Frank-ACORN supermajority is a vote for a Europeanized domestic policy that is, as the eco-types like to say, “unsustainable”.

Mark Steyn writes the Age Of Obama would set America down the path of Eurosocialism. The era of America as a hard power and the last distinctive redoubt of Judeo Christian civilization would be effectively over. We can't stop fellow Americans from taking the country over the cliffs. But we can all vote against such a future. It is literally a point of no return.

Great read - he nails it. Doesn't the line “To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked” remind us of VRM (Steve)?

I'm a long-time Limbaugh listener and NR subscriber.
Funny how the truth is dismissed as Right-Wing propaganda by the Left-Wing propaganda/sleaze merchants.

Beyond the elites and the media, my greatest concern is whether this election will show a majority of the voters susceptible to the appeal of a charismatic demagogue.

This, I believe, is what everyone is wondering about. Most of us don’t believe the polls—not for a minute. Yet we see the crowds at 0bama’s rallys and we wonder, “What on earth? Are these people living in the same country as I am?” And then it strikes us...Maybe...just maybe...we are witnessing the wresting away of a nation by a great swell of socialistic rhetoric, all given the power of a steamroller by a complicit media. And we wonder if, when we all wake up on November 5th, will we still be living in our country—or some other?

Well, the GOP crammed things like torture, pre-emptive wars, doubling the debt, and cash giveaways to large companies down our throats for the last 8 years.

What did you expect was going to happen?

And BTW, we were not founded on Judeo-Christian principles - a large number of the FF were not Christians, and did not want this to be a Christian nation. They took what they considered to be the best from a variety of religions and forms of government and made it ours.


So you pick the chicken while the majority of the plane eats the glass and poo. You discover that the chicken is not cooked, but you eat it anyway because you don't know to do anything different. I (and maybe one or two others) will skip the meal because we know that waiting 10 hours until we can get to the airport lounge will be uncomfortable, but is clearly the best option given the alternatives.
When the aircraft resumes the flight and I get back on, it will have been emptied of most of the fools who ate the crappy meal. I will be able to stretch out end enjoy the flight.

So do everybody a favour - take four years off and get your collective GOP heads on straight. Come back with candidates who will not cram their religion down anybodies throat, who will not give out tax dollars to companies, who will teach people to fish rather than giving them fish, and encourage people to ask questions even if it makes the party uncomfortable.

Try to win the vote of a gay black Muslim with a great work ethic who lost a leg serving in the US Army. I bet you can't do it. I bet you don't even want his vote.:LOL::LOL:

Well, maybe all you McCain supporters should have spent a little more time extolling the efforts of what McCain has accomplished in the past 25 years in Congress instead of bashing Obama day in and day out.

How foolish all you Chicken Littles looked yelling "the sky is falling". You look about as foolish as the libs did in 2000 and 2004 when they were screaming about Bush.

You know, VRM you really are in a more than passingly strange way an arugula-chomping European elitist. No candidate is good enough for you, America isn’t good enough for you and I’ll bet even your bowl movements come up short. On one hand, you continually defend Obama, but he’s not good enough for you – he doesn’t get your vote. On the other hand, Ron Paul is your hero with most people thinking he’s nuts. I wonder where one would find your peer group – it for sure isn't here. I’m thinking that you belong to the snollygoster crowd. You have what it takes to lead that group.

The DNC won't do it. The GOP has a better shot at it, but I doubt it will happen any time soon.

Actually, my post was not an attack it was a statement of fact - possibly you can point out the 'attack' part? I'm very careful here.

And that is why you are an elitist, VRM - nothing and no one is good enough for you, even the posters here have it all wrong in your view - although your view is stictly a minority view on these threads. Just pointing this out, no attack is intended.

You see, VRM the majority of posters here have issues with Obama, big time and issues with McCain, small time next to Obama - compromise i.e. McCain is the only logical and rational way to go this time around, along with Republicans in the house and Senate - third party voters are those that cannot compromise, they are a bunch of jackanapes thinking of themselves as principled people although in reality they are elitist unprincipled people that cannot see the forest through the trees. The ironic thing is that it may be people like you, the jackanape bloviators of America that may indirectly put Obama over the top. If that happens, America will never be the same and it will be full speed ahead to socialism.
