VRM's response is by far the phunniest post today.....HOWEVER, every time I get to Alien Fred's, de Capell's or Silverback's posts, I lose my train of thought.

Oooh good! I just found my sandpaper mittens---one last look at the above-mentioned avatars and I'll be back in 15....

They reported today that Robert Kennedy is being considered for the head of the EPA. He is an enviromental extremist to say the least. Let's hope for our Cobra's sake this does not happen. I can see the EPA trying to impose harsh vehicle standards if this is true.

CDC,

You have so many issues listed here. Which are rhetorical hyperbole and which do you really believe?

1) nationalizing healthcare; yep, I'm a bit concerned as well

2) instituting a cap and trade carbon tax; I don't care

3) blocking ALL domestic oil development; I doubt he will do that, but I'd rather suck all the foreign oil from South America and the Mideast and save our oil until the rest of the world runs out. So I'm in no hurry to use up our oil.

4) allowing the Bush Tax cuts to sunset; Yep, I'm concerned as well. Either than or we go 20trillion in debt.

5) passing the Fairness Doctrine; I'm too ignorant to know what this is and too lazy to read up on it.

6) confiscating your 401(k); esplain please.

7) withdrawing unilaterally from Iraq; Why do you object to that? Oil or are you intersted in the welfare of Iraqi's?

8) cutting military spending 25%; It would be helpful to cut military but more importantly, cut down on entitlements (federal retirement packages, social security....) Take a look at what taxes go for. Military spending is paultry compared to entitlements.

9) junking our nascent missile defense;

10) giving amnesty to 20 million Mexicans; Hope not. Why didn't Bush make English the national language? Now we will be like Quebec. (will be? We are!)

11) doubling the capital gains tax rate; c'mon... really? 52%?

12) double digit unemployment; maybe, but the recession started in the existing administration.

13) The DOW going down to 3,000. Perhaps.

With regard as to where to invest, with the DOW down as far as it is, if you have several years to invest, now is the best time to get in; when it is down. It may go down more, so you don't put all-in, but a bit at a time. Just like real estate. Now is the time to buy. It's tanked. Get in now.

The dollar is shooting back up in strength against the Euro. The real estate market is close to or bottomed out. Gas is dropping like a lead balloon. Life is good. Time to invest, when it looks gloomiest. Buy at the bottom (now or near now) sell at the top (hopefully you did that in early 2008).

Your key response: I'm too ignorant to know what this is and too lazy to read up on it - I second that.

I few points - Obama may or may not go after all the stuff listed - since there is no funds, it's hard to say what he will end up doing.

Item 5 - the Fairness Doctrine would, in effect, negatively impact Talk Radio - the liberals are out to eliminate the barrage of conservative imput.

Item 6 - democrats are looking at eliminating the 401K contribution tax deduction.

Item 7 - basically, I don't want to go back - so, this needs to be ended in a well thought out manner with goals achieved versus a date certain without those goals achieved.

Item 8 - entitlements really require a hatchet.

Item 11 - here's where your ignorance comes into play, big time - Barack Obama is in favor of nearly doubling the capital-gains tax rate from 15 percent to 28 percent. Not quite 50% but very close.

Shape up and do some research, if you don't - you are a liberal.

Thread is fine, Ed is funny, and Steve and CDC seem to be entangled in a circle wank.

Be nice.

Funny thing about the guns and ammo comments, Brownells had a full stock of a couple different mags I need just three months ago, seems they sold out of ALL their mags I needed last night. Good lord people, stop this madness of buying all the good stuff...atleast until I can get my stock pile.

You have to see opportunity when it comes around, I'm hoping to get the contract to build the fleet of bullet-proof Pope-mobiles myself.

I can just see the future press conferences with the Mayflower guys rolling Obama out on stage in the phone booth with a hand truck.

I just got home from talking to our city manager and she told me that a woman came in and told them she voted for Obama because he would pay her utility bill and make her house payments for her.

As a lifelong republician who wanted McCain, maybe Obama will do some good. The repubs let me down for 8 years. I still pay the AMT which they said would be fixed. Still no good healthcare plan, had a kidney transplant 5 years ago, if i loose health ins i'm bankrupt. Cost $25,000 a year to pay if no insurance.
I will give him a chance till he does something that scares me.

Smokingcobra2 - Hmmmm.....so, what do you have in mind for Obama to do, specifically relating to health insurance? If it's just to make sure that you continue to have ready access to insurance, that's a reasonable goal.

Here's what I find interesting about those poor souls that do not have it, but need it - Doctors and especially Hospitals are not interested in charging those people the same net amount that they get from insurance companies - they seem to want the 'full amount' billed. In your case, you state that $25,000 a year to pay - but why not whatever that entity gets now based on the fact that you have insurance? You having insurance doesn't impact them directly, except that they more than likely negotiated a set price with the insurance company - its that price that a consumer should be able to negotiate directly.

PaulF,

Your #5, and 11.

5. The Fairness Doctrine restricts the free speech of broadcasters. Some would say that's a good thing, but it is against the principle of freedom.

11. The max tax on an ordinary capitol gain [stock sold after being kept over a year] is 15%. Even an increase to 20% is a 33% tax increase.
Low capitol gain taxes are the premium fuel of the stock market. High capitol gains taxes changes the market from a Cobra to a gerbil.

bingo... why isn't there any talk about "nationalized insurance" -(no more profit)
LMAO
If people want nationalized health care, pick a country and get it... see if you come back.
