Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi from England!
I just finished a phone call to an American company and the very friendly, helpful lady, on finishing the call, wished me a "happy holiday!" Until I had hung up, I didn't get what she meant but then I remembered reading that it is Thanksgiving in the USA this weekend!
Thanksgiving strikes me as a lovely tradition - family, pumpkin pie, etc. It is not one that many of us in the rest of the world - even England - celebrate or are even aware of, apart from via American relations, friends and TV shows, movies, etc. I wish we did celebrate it!
Anyway, in honour (honor? ) of the nice American lady, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL!
Perhaps you could let me know what your celebrations involve so that I can join in...
Best wishes,
Paul

Paul,
We have another one that involves a lot of celebrating and families getting together.
It occurs in the middle of the summer,in the first week of July.
Independence Day...... The 4th of July.

Thanks Paul, mostly for family get togethers and of course...food. We have others such as Christmas, family reunions and other family traditions. Getting the family together is a good thing. It should happen more often.

Paul,
Thanks for the nice post. Thanksgiving is a holiday for us when we celebrate the pilgrims and their settling here mostly. It is a time for good food and family get togethers, and just being thankful for what we have. Fred, don't be sarcastic about the 4th of July.

Pretty much every family has their own traditions, but the one thing that is pretty much the same for all is so much food that you are not hungry the next day.
We had a great day yesterday. The only family we have locally is my wife's uncle and his family (his wife and her 6 kids). They all came over yesterday and we had Ham, Chicken, Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Sweet Potatoes, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Mac and Cheese, Green Beans, Corn, Corn Bread, Rolls, Brownies, Apple Crisp, Pumpkin Pie, Plenty of Egg Nog, and I am sure somethings I forgot about. We played games, watched TV, talked and laughed. We didn't even realize it, but at 10:30 she got up and said, oh no, I have to be at work at 5:00, we gotta go. It was such a good time that everyone lost track of the time.

I see no reason why you and your family can't start having a special day every year like we do to give Thanks and then over eat.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours !

Going with that reasoning, wouldn't England be celebrating Thanksgiving 1 or 2 times a week ?
