Fabricated log splitters
I cut and split my firewood by hand, about every two or three years I'll order a truck load of oak logs, just glad I'm still able to do it. The other day I was Playing around on YouTube and found these splitters, I like most anything homemade, but these are a little extreme and dangerious.

Not sure, but I think there was a home made still in the backround of that first video.

Is it me agin' eyes.....
..or did the loonie in the first video have only one (working) arm? Whatever's wrong with the old hydraulic-ram type splitters? Yikes! Ar-ar!

How many tons on a truckload and how much do you have to pay?

Usually 12-18 18' logs about 15-25" dia. The last load costs $130, that's before it went up, and then back down?. The guy I buy from sells mostly to pallet makers, now that's changed and he'll sell to anybody?. As slow as things are, he'll probably deliver for free and split.

The first video ... the lack of one arm should give you a hint to run away. The second video, that contraption looked like a Redneck guillotine.
Reminds me of a friend who built a log splitter using a one axle utility trailer. The ram was 6 inch in diameter, with a 2 foot stoke, so it could bend the Empire State Building.
For power, he bolted a air cooled 60 HP VW engine to the trailer. Anyone need to split a Redwood or Sequoia tree?
Northern tool has about 30 different log splitters, and some of them were on Sale when I checked last week.

130 delivered...ouch.
Our loads are twice as big somewhere around 28 tons, I sold two last week for firewood for $750 delivered and the firewood lot had to be able to unload the truck. The wood would be in 12-20' lengths 2"-20" in diameter somewhere around 250 pieces. A mix of fir and hardwoods we usually send to a pulp mill.
We produce around 500 loads of pulp/firewood a year which is about 13% of our total production.
Do you want me to schedule a trainload for you?
