I am that old. Sure miss the good old days. I saw most of them at the Fremont drag strip many years ago. Was a shock when Jungle Jim died.
Thanks for posting this.

Default I remember all that

Drag racing was way more exciting back then because it was new given the big engines and the blowers as they moved from slow cars in the 50s to high HP cars in the 60s. Before then it was just 50s cars and all they knew how to do was switch engines (like putting a 401 Buick nailhead in a chevy. So this stuff was really cool and brutal. It was massive torque overkill. Today drag racing is too refined and technilogical. Plus, it is same old, same old.

I remember those days quite well. I believed then and I still do that the drivers that drove the AA/F Altereds were the craziest SOBs in drag racing. Same motors as the Top Fuel dragsters but with a model T or Anglia body on a 90 inch or so wheelbase. Crazy! Not surprised the NHRA dropped the class. Sure were fun to watch though!

Spent many sundays at Connecticut Dragway enjoying the smell of the fuelees. We made our own dragstrip with painted start and end lines painted on the road out in the middle of the tobacco fiields. today the fields gone and its a hugh industrial park.

That's 'cause the NHRA lacks what those altered drivers had in spades-BALLS
