Default OT, cant kill a Toyota Pickup

This is rather OT, but its funny, probably lots of you have seen it but its worth posting anyway.
I should say, seen all 3. Its a youtube from UK about trying to kill a Toyota Pickup, and its pretty amazing.
Prepare for 3 fairly long movies, go grab a beer out of the fridge,

That was awesome. I tried to kill my first car. A 2 door 76 Mercury Monarch. Pretty much the same results. In the end, both doors were tied shut, the power steering was gone, the pump completely froze up burning up the belt which also turned the fan. Even though it kept over heating, it kept running. I rolled it into a ditch, righted it, and continued. In the end I sold it to a friend who was making a 62 falcon hot rod for $100. He used the 9" rear that was in the car, transmission, and seats. He could not believe it would not die either. I think it is the car gods. When you want to kill one, you cannot. When you want it to last forever, you have about 6 months.

They made cars better back then. I knew a guy here that had an old Buick he wanted to junk out and he decided to run it until the engine blew. He drove it without water until it finally stopped and it smelled to High Heaven. Next day for kicks he decided to see if it would turn over and it not only turned over but started up. Then he drained the oil pan and started it and put a brick on the accelerator pedal to hold it wide open. I was amazed how long it ran before the engine finally blew.

We still have my old '79 F-150 classic pickup in the family, which I gave to my son-in-law's mom to use on their farm in Maine to gather wood and do whatever needed. The grandkids play in it a lot too. But one day a guy came over to do some tree clearing and about had a fit when he saw it, and wanted to restore it, as that was his hobby. Been looking for one of those for a good while which still ran. She gave it to him, and its in the process of quite a project, I cant wait to see it this summer! Here is a picture just prior to its 'rebirth'.

Not bad. It looks as if it is still in pretty good shape. Should be a really good one for restoration.

I have owned 2 79 F150s 1 a 2WD Custom the other an F150 Ranger 4X4. Both good solid trucks. I beat the hell out of the 4X4 (lifted desert rat) when I lived in southern Cali. My uncle still owns my Dads old 65 F100. Still runs, needs a lot of work to restore it but I have been thinking about it.

Default Hey Janie's a Stealth Warrior!

Ronnie (et al),

Jane Carter is my (compootah-genius) sister---she's the one who'll eventually help me post some of the Hawai'i evidence! Odd as it may seem, I USTER beable to post things (note my glorious Gallery) but fell out of practice.

I dint know she'd joined The Club. It's cool, 'cause she's had a "bad hair day" (i.e. a ride or two in the Cobra)---her daughter Julie's even DRIVEN it!

Freddie,

That is great. We are all looking forward to seeing your Hawaii trip pictures. I have been through your gallery several times and you have some great shots in there. Also nice to have your sister in the group. You two alone will raise the intelligence among us to about three times what it was.

This is what keeps us busy around here,

But when the Cobra is back on the road, I sure intend to take some pictures with Lilly 'driving'.

Jane,

Those are great pictures and the area is just beautiful. I thought sure when I saw the title Wet Dog that Freddie had fallen into the water.

Sorry Freddie, just couldn't resist that remark.

I guess that they don't build Toyota pickups like they used to. I recently read a report where they were doing a series of head-to-head tests to compare the 4 major full size 2009 pickups. One test was over a very rough test track where the trucks had to endure very harsh bumps, ruts, etc. The Ford was judged to be the best, slightly edging out the Dodge and the Chevy. However they abandoned the test for the Toyota as the frame was flexing so much that the box was hitting the cab and they were afraid of doing serious damage to the truck.

What if I'm being pursued by Los Federales (not uncommon in Luddite, safety-Nazi MA)----and the truck shytes the bed-------which truck paht does the cop arrest?

Ar-ar-ar-ar-oooooogah!

The Hawaii pictures are beautiful! We went thru the first CF card today. My computer, the Big Mac that I do the web stuff on is in the shop for a new logic board and power supply, so I am stuck for the moment not being able to upload any pictures. And worst of all, Photoshop is on the sick computer, so we will have to wait a while for it to be fixed. Then I can post some of Fred's great pictures.
Gee, what a beautiful place, Ive never been to Hawaii.
Our daughter and family are in Singapore for a month, and have sent some pictures too, thats another beautiful place.
I love flowers and plants, but this is an automotive forum, so I wont get cranking on flowers,,,,,,

Jane,

Post any great pictures, they don't have to be about cars. There is a thread that Warren started about Fall colors that has some very nice pictures in it if you delete his Cobra from a few of them.

We are really looking forward to seeing the Hawaii pictures. Scenery such as what you had in the pictures with the dog in the water is also really appreciated by many.

Darn, I could have sworn that Freddie told me Macs didn't get sick or have problems.

Hi Ron,
This is very unusual for Macs, its a series of computers which were manufactured in a small time frame, and the logic boards and power supplies failed. I thought that when they were replaced, that they got 'new' parts from a different source, but I dont think they are available. So they have to use the stockpile of defective replacement parts, they last about 6 months.
Luckily Apple has a sort of 'recall' on these particular serial number machines, and all the work is done free, parts too.
Just hoping they give me a replacement, as they have done for some of my Mac classmates.
But I will get some pictures up today I hope. Im using this old Mac, but just put Photoshop on my husband's newer Mac, so will use his to get started.

The first 22 pictures are ready, but Ive not had time to get him to tell me what to put in for the captions or the text. I think he went up to Boston yesterday.
I will get the text in today and then send you the link.
With my Mac in the shop, I am using a commercial photo hosting site, Pbase.com, as its really easy to use and very versitile. I cant upload anything to my actual website until I get the computer repaired. But pbase.com will do(and its easier and quicker for me).

Gee, what a beautiful place Hawaii is!
I will have some pictures of Singapore later too.

Question

Jane,

I thought that Freddie was going to put the pictures in his gallery. I use Photobucket more than the gallery, but you can link form there to put the pictures in the post very easy too. But if he has a lot of them, they need to be in his gallery so he can link the best ones to posts and the others people can go look at in his gallery. I am unfamiliar with pbase.com but will go look at it right now.

Hi Ron,
You've got some really nice pictures on your link!
Fred didn't want me to post his just yet, until the captions are in.
I just got back from the school bus stop with our grandson, so I will have to give him a call now.

Thanks Jane,

The camera icon of course is my gallery here on CC and the View My Miscellaneous Gallery in the Signature is pictures over on Photoshop. I looked at the pbase.com and really like Photoshop and Fotki better. They have a pretty good free area and both have a pay per year plan. I think Fotki is the best for that as I don't think they have any limits on how many pictures or how large they can be. I believe that Steve, VRM, uses Fotki and if I am not mistaken he once told me he had more than 1,000 pictures there. I just use the free area on Photoshop as I haven't had enough pictures worth posting to fill it up and it already has 4 different types of codes with the pictures to copy depending on the software of the site you are going to link them to.
