Spark Plug Wraps

Just looked at the spark plug boots on my 350 with headers (the '38 Chevy, no problem on the Cobra). Boots were covered with the double wall fiberglass boot covers, so they can't be seen. The boots (Mallory) were completely eaten away by the heat. Anyone use anything else or do I have to get ahold of NASA?

Are you refering to the tubular fiberglass sleeves that slip over the boots and plugs? My headers are very close and radiate a lot of heat but so far the sleeves have prevented any damage to the rubber boots. Previously the boots without the fiberglass sleeves turned very soft and mushy after a few months.

Those are the sleeves I'm talking about. When I took them off the boots underneath were "very soft and mushy"
