so i pulled up to the pump
gas station that is. there was this 57 chevy on the other side, all decked out, new paint, slick wheels, shiny rims. older gentleman tending his ride.
so i whip in to the other side. there we were each facing south, looking out over the town, him in his turquoise on white, me with the silver with charcoal striped jbl. each was shining in the afternoon sun, eager to do something. i figured the guy would take two steps over to my side of the pump when i pulled in, but no, he wouldn't budge. i had to leave mine running, he was going to hear it whether he liked it or not, and i wasn't going to take two steps over to his side of the pump, no way. so there were stood, not saying a word. the lady in the convenience store runs out all giggly and asks what year? not a year mam, but a car, a kit car. oh, she says, a kit car, and mumbles something else, almost spinning completely around. i glance over at the 57, he's still there but not making any conversation. oh well, i've run into these kind before. just leave em alone and they don't pose any problems, it's daylight at least. i'm finished fueling and latch everything up. glance over once more to see if '57 wants to parlay, but no chance. just as well. i get in and buckle up, wait, almost forgot to pull the chock. the guy in the convenience store walks out and offers assistance, i say no, i can get it and reach out in front of the rear wheel and pull the chock. off i go, looking back at '57 once more, he's not even looking up. |
Seems to me you were doing the same thing you are ragging on the old man about.
Have an ego problem there ? |
Possibly the fact the 57 Chevy was an original car and yours is a replica? I have been in the same situation several times and always talked to whomever was at another pump even if I did have to initiate the conversation. Never had one person get nasty or say anything but good about my replica, though some of their original cars were worth many times more.
Ron :) |
wow, i didn't look at it like that. i was trying my story telling out a little bit, western style, you know louis lamour. i don't rag but however you read it, everybody interpretes things differently.
i thought it was all kind of funny in the story telling. |
:)
Vector1, Sorry about the misread of your post. It is hard to tell from a post just what a person really means unless you have posted with them for a while or know them. I think most of us have had some of our posts taken in a way then we never meant them to be. Maybe use smileys when you are joking. Ron :JEKYLHYDE |
Victor1 - that's got to be the oddest post of the week. Why would you even care what the chevy guy was doing or thinking about? Why would you not go over and talk to him about his car if you are interested?
People are just strange. |
i know ron, it's kinda hard to tell about someone unless you know their character, internet doesn't help.
cobra de capell that's what is so funny about the whole thing. i thought i would tell it in a dramatisized form and i guess let anyone interpret it how they felt. people, situations, and reactions are interesting. the other guy had a nice car, he wasn't interested in mine, i wasn't really interested in the 57, we both left it at that. there was no animosity. i'll work on it, til next time. |
Vector 1,
I didn't have a problem with your post. Just read as a stating of an incident in one mans life. I do scratch my head however, when others try to tell you how you should think and react. IMHO "Give advise when asked, ask for advise when needed, or leave the situation alone" |

Dan40,
You got me nailed, I'm crying "uncle" :) Sorry Jamo, Beautiful Sunday here, brings my "live and let live" to the surface. :o |
My word, the best post on this thread is Jamo's.
  |
Vector,
I may have over reacted on my post this morning. My knees were acting up and I was feeling a little old.so I think I got a little defensive when you started with the "old Man". I'm feeling normal now... I think you would have done humanity a favor by kicking that old farts azz. |
i'm gonna whip another one out here in a minute!

Am I missing something here?
Are these actually happenings you are telling us about, or are you engaging in the art of 'story telling'? :D |

You feeling OLD. Give me a break. You are spending to much time with Frenchy and the Hos. Vector, Don't worry. Now that we know more about your intentions with your story we will know that you are adding a little to them for the fun of it. We had a guy, doctor I believe, who used to write great stories about his trips in his Cobra even if it was just to the store. Everyone knew he was adding to the stories and they were great reading. I looked forward to his every post. If there ever was a time that we need some levity in our lives, it has to be now. Keep on posting. Ron :) |

I've always thought that the will rogers style of humorous storytelling was more suited to poking a bit of fun at real life situations, I leave the colorful cowboy tales to louis lamour, he was one of the best at what he did. :D |
