White House Apologizes for Air Force Flyover
White House Apologizes for Air Force Flyover
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ew-york-nerve/ When President Obama learned of the episode on Monday afternoon, aides said, he, too, was furious. Now, whould anyone care to buy a lovely bridge in Brooklyn? What a stupid stunt.... Also - here's POTUS sort of fighting with TOTUS or is this a TOTUS betrayal? http://www.politico.com/politico44/p...17e7b70c2.html |
:JEKYLHYDE
Darn, I knew that I should have bought stock in the teleprompter manufacturers. That flyover was a stupid stunt and how are they going to keep it secret. If they had alerted the public they could have avoided the near panic they caused. Ron |
ohh yeah and like he didn't already know about it.
|
Nice touch of having an F16 take the pictures too. Out of all of the aircraft in the US inventory they had to pick a fighter!
When will the Whitehouse be mailing us our 8 x 10's of Airforce One with the statue in the background? |
Just to set the facts straight (to those who value facts)..
The New York Police Department knew well in advance. So did the NY and NJ Authority. The 911 dispatchers knew. And Mayor Mike Bloomberg's citywide event coordination and management director, Marc Mugnos, knew. In fact, the FAA and several other public agencies knew, well in advance. Administration officials said planning started in mid-March and told the FAA to make the air space available, which they did. It was the best and brightest that run this fair city that took no action or communication and let the chicken-little effect occur. Dumb stunt? ..hardly. Dumb city? ..you betcha. :p |
Two posts from Ron in the lounge this week???
Did someone figure out his password??? |
Thanks for the facts Ron. I should know better than to believe what the press puts out. Have to agree the city was dumb to not let people know about it. After 9/11 they should have known that planes flying like that without the people knowing about it would possibly cause a panic.

My question is that in light of the FACT that obama has been creating NEW spending at the rate of $2 billion dollars an HOUR in his first 98 days. Did we really need to spend another $50,000, to $100,000. for a few snapshots? And overload NYC's sewage system for a few hours? |

But, really... 50-100k? that's mice nuts, it's so small. Actually, they could have done the whole photo deal with Photoshop for about a grand and never left the tarmac. |
THis stunt was "Felony stupidity".

The news report today is that the ACTUAL TOTAL COST of the 'photo opp flyover' for our celebrity-in-chief, king obama WAS $328,800.00. Might still be "mice nuts," but it would cover a Cobra, a 550 Spyder, a 904, and a T-bucket replica with a few nice dinners left over. OR A national retreat/meeting for a bailed out company. Was it Dirkson some years back that said , "A million here, a million there, pretty soon you're into serious money!" |
Something that I don't understand about this. If all of the proper authorities were notified of the photo shoot, and they failed to notify the people, why is Obama mad at his people and taking it out on them, as they did their part of the job by notifying all of the city officials than should have been. Or is that just more grandstanding for the press?
Ron  |
As an American, I am offended by the use of these words: "celebrity-in-chief, king obama." in your post.
How many hours a month do the pilots fly for non-missions, training, certs, etc.? It's just the cost of maintaining the fleet. They were flat-out stupid for not announcing the photo-shoot as a public event, so that everyone could watch. |
In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.
http://wcbstv.com/topstories/air.for....2.996457.html It was a “photo op” of Air Force One ordered by the White House for purely patriotic and essential reasons. It had nothing to do with politics and Zer0 knew nothing about it, because obviously he does not care about politics and only cares about the people. That’s why it was kept secret under penalty of prosecution. Make sense? I'm wondering - who was on the plane? Also, photo-op? Photos can readily be made up..... |

Somebody at the FAA should lose their job over this.... it could have been a great event if they planned and announced it... people could have gone to Battery Park and on the Jersey side and watched, took pictures, like a Blue Angels deal. Dumb.
They still haven't learned how to communicate between agencies in NYC. |
I served in the Presidential Unit as a crew chief and Flight Chief at Andrews for 11 years, retiring in 1998. I've had some up close experiences with these photo ops. If memory serves me right, the aircraft wouldn't have left the ground until ALL agencies were notified and everything was confirmed by the White House Military Office.

According to the media...the White House Military Office bloke has bent over far enough to kiss his ass goodbye.
