GM never,NEVER learns
Nothing has changed.GM never learns.I went to my local cruise night on Saturday.A new Camaro was there.THere were two holes(horizontal)just in front of the front wheels on the lower part of fender or lower bumper wrap-around.THey looked out of place,so i asked the owner what they were for. This frown came over his face as he told me that the chin spoiler blew off on the freeway because the factory drilled two holes at each corner and then used TAPE in-between the screws to hold the CHIN SPOILER on.ARE YOU SH!TTIN' me?Tape to hold a spoiler on?
Brand new much anticipated new Camaro.Indy pace car, blah, blah, blah
And the spoiler is held on by tape.
GM NEVER LEARNS...NEVER.

Problem is , It is an aftermarket that is shipped to the selling dealers parts department in a BOX, and installed by the dealer. Which means the the wash rack boys get to do it.

I went to a dealer with a friend a week ago, and the dealers STILL have a "dealer asking price" which is higher then MSRP. The dealer was unwilling to deal with MSRP. Now, I'm not sure...but I'd rather sell 4 or 5 cars at MSRP then one or two at a grand or two over, and I'm sure the guys working the assembly line would like to see an increase in volume. I know you can shop around to find deals, but really...with most dealers doing this, is it any wonder why people get PO'd and leave GM for other brands?!

I don,t want to defend that practice, we do not charge over , but we are on allocation of Camaros , meaning we are going to get five for the year. We have a SS going out now and we have a total mark up in the MSRP of 1000 dollars . Sad put true . We could sell more but we may not get them for along time. What would you do ?

I would give up the extra profit - it's a rip of the people that are still interested in GM products, very possibly loyal GM buyers. There is plenty of profit in the MSRP number. Buying at the MSRP number is stupid but occasionally necessary when a hot product is involved.

GM is in no position to be screwing customers. They need all the "Carma" that can be mustered. They did it with the 04 GTO and we all know what a disaster that car was.

Well said Cobrabill; and if the " carma" thing was an intentional pun - assolutely brilliant! if not, it's still brilliant!

I went to the local Chevy store top look at the Camaro. The attitude there was unbelievable, I was incredulous. They could barely be bothered to talk to me. The car was $5000 over sticker, and I was clearly being told that I could go to hell if I didn't like it. They can take the car and cram it as far as I'm concerned. The smug, pompous attitude is the last thing you would expect from a company that borrowed money from me and you just to stay afloat, and then claimed bankruptcy anyway. What a bunch of idiots, perhaps the only idiots bigger than them are those who encourage this practice of gouging by actually paying over sticker. I'll never buy a GM product again. Go to that same showroom in 6 months and they'll be begging you to buy one of these whistling $hitboxes. By the way, have you seen the car in person? It's HUGE, almost as big as the Challenger.

Same attitude when the GTO came out.People were told they could test drive it on their way home after they paid for it.
The "GM mindset"is just stupefying.

I make this solemn vow.
I will never buy a GM product again, why should any of us pay for the same vehicle twice?
Obama is taking credit for a slight uptick in Chrysler purchases, just think how he will gloat over any GM sales. Are you all willing to buy a new Camaro knowing it will help this administration?

So we are all irresponsible test drivers?A vehicle is the second biggest purchase a lot of us will make. You expect us to buy an "uinknown"?
And you don't have to beat the crap out of it to get a good idea what "it's" about. But on the other hand...it IS a Hot Rod.It's unreasonable to expect people to go for a "granny drive".
Maybe someone was seriously considering the car even with the "rape & pillage mark-up" on it.But after a drive, they decided-No WAY.After all it is a GM product.

They all do it, look back at what the KR was selling for. Another that comes to mind was the Miata.
Not to mention people paying $3k for an X-box 360 on ebay...
Personally, I don't mind waiting two years to watch Star Trek on a DVD I got at Wal-Mart for $5.
Plus I liked the old Camero better, the new one is fugly.

I've only owned one GM...a 1975 Buick Regal with the Buick V8--DAMN! I missed that lawsuit ,too! I was so proud of that car...first new car bought with MY OWN MONEY! Salesman was cool, very patient and helpful. Think he got a kick out of it too. The day I picked it up I looked over the silver paint (that hadn't started the peel and reveal yet) and the landau top in GENUINE faux leather (remember those?). Opened the door to get that 'new car smell' and give my Mom a ride home...and the door panel stuck in the jam, pulled off as the door opened and the door light fell out on the ground and shattered into pieces. It stayed at the dealership for 4 days for the repair. After the initial problem, and the paint peeling off (twice), and the transmission being replaced (shifted into neutral when it damn well felt like it) I was never quite a GM fan again.

1975.Right about the time things really started going to sh!t at GM.As a child i have no memories of anything other than Pontiacs in our garage. In '72 my dad bought a Buick Sportwagon.350/2bbl and never better than 8 MPG.Rotted to death. He switched to Datsun and never again bought a GM.

Bullet, that is my point...the car is sitting there. The marketing group for GM established a fair price for the Camaro based off the current market, competition, profit and such. Then they advertise the price to the consumer, which leads to foot traffic into a dealer. Then the consumer sees the price on the car is not what is being asked…it’s higher. This is bad business, pure and simple. What would I do? I’d keep the price at MSRP, avoid the hook of one sale at a higher price while watching five other potential sales walk out the door after being told they’ve got to pay more or no test drives are allowed (my guess is most WON’T be back either). Your not selling a Ferrari…your selling a Chevy, and thus your market is driven off quantity of units sold, nothing else in the current GM marketing model (other then the ZR1) even should approach anything more or less. Think I’m wrong? Fine, how many dealers are closing, who filed bankruptcy, who hasn’t made a profit in how long, which dealers are currently not being praised by customers? GM has many faults, but I stand by my argument that the biggest problem between the product and customer isn’t the market, product or quality of the car but the dealers. The last few vehicles I’ve bought from Toyota or Honda have been an open test drive, MSRP fixed price and a new car sold and a unit moved for the dealer/automaker.
