Also,
Opponents of Chrysler's sale to Fiat are asking the Supreme Court to block the deal. Three Indiana state pension and construction funds filed emergency papers at the high court early Sunday to put the sale on hold so they can pursue an appeal.
The funds also challenged the constitutionality of the Treasury Department's use of Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, funds to supply Chrysler's bankruptcy protection financing. They say the Treasury did so without congressional authority.

[quote=cobra de capell;955577]Interesting Trend.....
It's a meaningless trend. Every president since Truman ended their presidency lower than they started, with the exception of Clinton, who also ended with the highest rating of those presidents.

" As for healthcare , I would support some mininum universal level ...... " .
Does that include the millions of illegal criminal aliens who are currently overloading the system ? What about the people who have voluntarily chosen to not carry any health insurance ... or the people who say they can`t afford it , while watching their plasma tv`s and driving a new BMW ? Yes , I know this doesn`t apply to everyone , but I have a major problem paying for people like that ...., especially the criminals who trash our borders and then demand we take care of them .
However , I really do agree with you on the people who make conscious decisions to not take care of themselves .... substance abusers , fat slobs and people who do nothing to be proactive in their own health .
All my life , I have made decisions that allowed me to take care of my family in all areas and had to do without many things during those years to do that . Why in the hell should I now have my money confiscated by the Government to take care of morons , deadbeats and illegals ? Yes , you take care of the truly needy ... and those are the only ones you do that for .
This President won`t be satisfied until he has drug everyone down to the least common denominator and completely trashed the law and Constitution ... as he is doing with Chrysler and GM.

At best if you take an average number of uninsured, not the 42, 000 the liberals tote or the 17,000 conservatives quote and lets say 25-30,ooo WHY IN World would anyone want to RUIN a system that works for 90% of the population to satisfy at best 10%.
IT WILL TOYALLY SCREW UP MEDICINE AS WE KNOW IT
Wether you accept not we ahve the best system in the world. We wont once Obama changes it. I'm in medical sales, Massacuhetts switched to a mandatory system where everyone MUST HAVE INSURANCE--either private which you buy thru the government or and employer- Wait times have increased significantly, but the big problem is that DR's are retiring at a very high rate- there payments are down, they must see more patients
SO there leaving the sytem and retiring.
If this becomes nation wide you willbe waiting weeks for an appointment.

joe g ... I didn`t touch on the Doctors retiring ... but , I have a daughter who has been in the medical profession ( nurse/PA ) for the past 20 years and have been told that if the "single payer " system goes into effect , a good portion of the Doctors in the area she is in will get out or retire as NONE of them will work for the Federal Govt. and have them determine their treatments , compensation etc. I`ve gotten the same basic reply from several Doctors I know personally . Let`s do the math .... you add millions of new "patients " and reduce the number of Doctors .... can you say disaster ???
As you said ... why screw up an entire system for a comparatively small number that don`t have insurance , for whatever reason ? Is the system perfect .... no , but you tweak it ... not "reinvent" it .
Keep in mind , the same people who gave us the Postal system , Amtrack and the financial disaster we are in now will run the new system .

Can't argue with that. 1946 was a horrible year.

In 2004, Hillary Clinton spoke in San Francisco and was quoted as saying:
“Many of you are well off enough that [President Bush’s] tax cuts may have helped you. We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to have to take things away from you. We’re going to have to have to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.”
Michelle Obama - universal health care:
“If we don’t wake up as a nation with a new kind of leadership…for how we want this country to work, then we won’t get universal health care,” she said.
“The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.”

Ronbo ....spend 20+ years living off the Govt. tab and rack up half a mil for hip/knee replacements ??? Don`t know what they charge in your area, but from first hand experience ( two hips replaced ) , it was in the $50,000 to $60,000 range for both . Knees are about the same according to my Doctor ... and this was up in Mass . From my experience , you are way off base on that cost . Also , according to my Doctor , the replacements come from a bunch of factors : overweight people put a huge strain on the joints , sports do the same .... and genetics also figure in .
As far as living off the Govt tab .... sorry , my private insurance paid for all of it . If the Govt. would give me all the money back ( with interest ) that I paid over my working life for Medicare Ins etc . , I would gladly tell them to buzz off and take care of myself .
As for your statement about charges the evil hospitals whack the insurance companies with ... there isn`t enough space to get into that . Again , first hand experience as I`m friends with some Doctors and my oldest has been in that field most of her life . Every test in the book ??? It`s called CYA medicine because of suit happy patients etc . She is going through that now on a lawsuit that will be thrown out of court , but the Doctor still has to spend money to defend himself .

Nope, ment to say "and the other ailments". If you make it to 85 odds are pretty good you'll rack up that kind of money in medical expenses during that 20yrs since your health will be the worst it's ever been.
I'm trying to address the line about smokers and the BS of how they burden the health care system.
As far as private health care, if your over 65 you're in the select few that has it. CYA? Well, partly. Also to some extent it seems to be arrogance that the medical community wants to preform $200k procedures so you can suffer through another year or two crapping in a bag tied to your hip. The ambulance chasers ability to empty people's bank accounts pales in comparison to the medical communities.
Not to mention the drug companies focus on "maintenance drugs" and not cures. I mean why cure a disease when you can treat it for $40yrs at $500 a month? (or more)

Ronbo,
As far as i am concerned smokers should pay extra just to clean up all the butts they leave lying around!
And I am all in favour of being able to shoot smokers in self defense if they approach me.

Didn't Rodney King give the same speech, "Can't we all get along"?
Actually, that works for me but it doesn't consider why the radical Muslims came after us in the first place and have been out to kill non-Muslims for centuries.
Basically, all the radicals now have wimps to deal with - practically anything short of a nuke will be OK. We are way too civilized but our enemies does have that restriction.
