Just what NASCAR needs.....someone else who is good in front of the cameras, but can't drive or win races. I followed "Winston Cup" avidly from the sixties until the last several years; I've been to multiple races at Ontario, Riverside, Fontana, Dover, Atlanta, and Las Vegas. Now, I wouldn't pay any money to go see one and I only watch maybe a dozen a year on TV. Unfortunately, the France family's romance with the $$$, instead of the product, is running off the "oldtimers" faster than the "newbies" can replace them. BTW, is there a race this weekend??

Danica......highest finish in IRL overall standings , 5th, from a Team other than Chip Ganassi or Roger Penske. Highest 2009 season finisher from Andretti-Green' s Team of 4 drivers.
http://www.indycar.com/stats/points.php?year=2009 Racing in today's world is a business with numerous considerations, example: Dale JR. Probably will finish 20th or lower, but still brings in the sponsorship and the endorsement dollars. His sponsor AMP has credited their sales increase to Dale. |

AutoWeek.com update
" One of the most compelling off-track stories in NASCAR this season has reared its head again, just in time for the three-race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. Reports are that Danica Patrick is closer than ever to cutting a deal to drive a dozen or so races next year for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Nationwide Series team. Sources are saying that Patrick is in the final phase of negotiating a two-year deal with JR Motorsports,........" http://www.autoweek.com/article/2009...SCAR/911059989 |
Personally I wish she would take up dog sled racing.
I think she would make a great lead dog on a team. |
Bikini
Who cares where she drives as long as she keeps posing in a bikini and high heels on a Shelby Cobra Replica (Backdraft by the way) for Sports Illustrated!

I watched an interview with one of the owners of the team she drives for now and he all but said he thought she would fail trying to drive in both series at the same time. He cited Sam Hornish as an example and said he had taken him aside and told him his open wheel car driving had suffered and he has dropped quite a bit from what he had been. He also hasn't set NASCAR on fire either. This guy all but said he felt Danica won't be able to handle the larger and heavier cars and will most likely fail.

Ron, seems odd that Michael Andretti, principal owner, would agree to allow Danica to participate in NASCAR if the opinion was it will not work, especially since she was the highest point driver, 5th, in 2009 of his 4 cars. Danica signed a new contract for 2010, so the opportunity existed to ban her from NASCAR driving.
There was another comment on any driver attempting the transition, the vast difference in down force and aerodynamics between Indy and NASCAR Was not aware Sam Hornish , from Penske's Team in NASCAR, was still driving in Indy or open wheel racing. |
