Danica Patrick & NASCAR
A number of the open wheel racers have not had the easiest time making the transition to the Sprint Cup series, even after spending time in the lower series.
However, a top Team might take the chance to obtain sponsor funding which would contribute to their overall Team costs. Danica would be able to attract the sponsor dollars as well as promoting their products, when compared to other race drivers with minimal name, popularity and appearance recognition. Danica has had more success recently with top 5's & top 10's Penske could be an option starting in the lower series and then if not successful, fall back to his Indy Team. Opinions & Comments ? " NASCAR might just have an answer to the soft economy that’s hurting TV ratings, live attendance and sponsor recruitment: Danica Patrick." " Arguably one of the best-known drivers in the world--despite having won just one race--Patrick is allowed to begin negotiations this week on a new contract with IndyCar team owners, and the racing rumor mill is churning that she is seriously contemplating a switch from open-wheel to stock-car racing in NASCAR. The ONLY questions are:
Is the money good for NASCAR? Is the money good for the sponsor? Is the money good for the team owner? Is the money good for the driver? Racing has NO other questions. |
She would probably make at 10 times the money in NASCAR as she makes in the IRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!that's the ony reason she is considering it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could she make it in NASCAR????? IMHO, I doubt it......and I really don't care!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David |
Despite being in arguably the finest equipment in the IRL for her entire career, she has won exactly HOW many races? If she was a man, would we even know who she was? Would we be impressed by her accomplishments? Of course the answer is no. She is at best a curiosity, and that's being charitable.....

The window net would hinder drying her nail polish. AND no power brakes!

For 2009, Danica leads the Andretti Green Racing Team with 167 points, Tony Kanaan has 146, Marco Andretti with 141 and Hideki Mutoh has 107. Currently 5th in the point standings, 32 points behind the leader

I agree. You are being "... charitable..." |
Of all the drivers who have started a NASCAR race this year, have ALL of them even won at least one race? And if they havent won a race, are you saying that they should NOT be in NASCAR?
|
5 of the NASCAR drivers in the top 12, those currently eligible for the Chase, have not won a race in 2009

If she tries to jump into the cup series... she will be making a HUGE mistake! If she did at LEAST 1 year in the nationwide series she would be much better off. i would say she needs to do 2 years in a nationwide car to have a chance at being very competitive in a cup car.
And for comparison, Look at the 88 team. Arguably the best equipment and team that money can buy. How's he doing? He was a great Busch (nationwide) driver. Ond only a mediocre cup driver. IMHO, she COULD be competitive in NASCAR. Just not by jumping from IRL to CUP. This reminds me of the movie days of thunder! haha |
I think she would need to spend at least a year and maybe more in the Nationwide or a lower series just to get used to the difference in the cars. These cars weigh a lot more and stop a lot worse than what she is used to. Also the fender to fender racing is another thing she has never experienced. She would most likely make more money in NASCAR, but if she flops, she has no where else to go unless one of the Indy teams will take her back.

Just waiting for the day when she poses in a bikini on the hood of the NASCAR Kotex Oil of Olay Vagisil Maybelline Chevrolet :D
|
I think she'd be good for the sport in the area of bringing in some new sponsors. But, I really doubt she'd do well (Montoya and Speed both have learned the hard way that Nascar is tough, and I rate them above her) in the series. Next, her mouth and attitude won't get her far unless she can back it up in wins and I'm so far not impressed with her record. But I would be the first to stand in line to watch her whine when Kyle sticks her in the wall and tells her to shut up. I'd also laugh when the first beer can gets tossed at her...bet it would be the first time she's tasted Budlight.

Now dats a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and not soo far fetched!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! very possible and highly likely if she ever makes the move to stock cars.................. David |
That would be a great interview,
The Kotex, Oil of Olay, Vagisil, Maybelline, Chevrolet ran great all day. Terry |
Isn't this chicks 15 minutes over yet?The Anna Kournakova of racing.
|
Sam Hornish is an example of the challenges switching from IRL to NASCAR, even with Team Penske.
|
"Well, we got behind in the first period qualifying in the Kotex Chevrolet, and ..."
"We are just itching to get the Vagisil Chevrolet out front...." The possibilities abound...:p |
She is still better looking than ANY NASCAr guy!!!
joeg |
"Well I was about to pass Gordon when I had to pull the string...."
" I was itching to get a win today, but the Vagisil Chevrolet stopped that...." Sorry, back on topic. How many open wheel guys have had any success other than Mario Andretti in Nascar? The list is short. Same with women in Nascar. I believe she will find a 3200 lb racecar handles a bit different and is harder to turn than a 2000lb racecar (I don't know the actual weights, but know there is a big difference). |
