CONGRATULATIONS MIKE! You did it and with the flip flops. Now let those feet have some well needed rest.

Thank you all of you for your support. My cell phone beeped endlessly with messages from here and others around the country familiar with the race. I will post more later... still pretty tired.
If you go to that website map, and hunt around a bit, the MOST linked-from site was ClubCobra! Something like 105 visits! That makes me feel a bit special!
I can change my signature now. Words can not describe the feeling of finally standing (or laying curled up in a fetal ball) on Castle Rock.
If I can figure out how to do it (email?) I will zip up all the email messages from the Ultra Running email list and the Vol-State email list and send them to those who are interested (PM me). Makes for some very interesting reading.
Mike

I only wore the flops for 4 miles... long enough for my feet to stretch out. Climbing to the top of Sand Mountain in flops is not even remotely feasible. The strategy worked out, my feet could again take the shoes.
It took me 5 hours to cover the last 11 miles. Un-freakin-believable.
I would take pics of my crotch and feet and post them here just to gross you out, but this is a family style site and the feet would cross the line in terms of pornographic content.

...
Congrats, Mike.
And I thought a puny cross country motorcycle event was tough.
I really can't imagine what you've gone through. I am so impressed.

Wes, someone even took a potshot over his head with a shotgun along the way. Definitely an achievement and an experience that will last a lifetime!
