Acid Etching....did you every wonder why?
Did you every wonder why the acid etching liquid does not remove the metal under the protective masking? You would think it would remove the metal under the protective masking as well.

It sure does on PCB copper and I would imagine it does on other metals as well. The masked and therefore untouched surface edge appears sharp but the acid almost certainly acts laterally beneath it as well as vertically. Here is a cross sectional representation of a PCB etch.
