We had just moved to very rural Missouri, after 8 years in D.C., barely unpacked and T-Day coming up fast. About 10 miles to the nearest town. I was at small local market looking for a turkey, none to be found. When I inquired about the lack of turkeys at the store the proprieter asked, "You mean your going to BUY one?" Several folks kind of looked my way with smiles and barely contained chuckles, (I think one of them had a banjo, but thats another story...).

I was SO embarrased, DOH! Drove to another town, far away, hid my frozen turkey in the trunk for fear someone might see it. :)

Ron/Jamo...cool it or I'll have to lock this thread.....

...sorry. We got carried away. It won't happen again...honest.

BeanCounter 09-05-2009 06:48 AM

Ernie,

There's 6 out in the pasture right now. I could fix us up for Thanksgiving from the bathroom window if it wasn't that we live in town (and the fact I'm out of subsonic rounds). But then there's 960 acres between me and the next house towards town. ;)

I try to show my respect for "Our" President everyday.

Kind of along the same lines, kids should first learn to respect their parents/elders, the president later. The US would be even a better place.

I have respect for any individual who attains a level of expertise from perserverence, hardwork, sacrifice, and fund of knowledge.

I don't have as much respect for someone who blows alot of "generalized" hot air, about complex issues they don;t understand (warfare, economy, healthcare), are judged by their appearence, and are in the right place at the right time. Like, maybe, politicians? Where do they come from?

You have the right to your opinion and to see that your children and grandchildren are brought up according to your principles and not some gangbanger's or leftist president's. (or mine for that matter)

And as such, may a thousand enraged Conservative Kittys claw your nutsack to ribbons for you overstepping your bounds in commenting on the raising of my family. .... you liberal you. :)

I might add that if it's not about his agenda then President Obama does not need to talk to my family at all about the importance of work and education. Between me and my two siblings we hold 4 masters degrees and a big part of a doctorate. My father only had an 8th grade education but was smart enough to impart that knowledge to me so I could pass it on. The great fake doesn't need to chime in.

Thank you for the "GREAT FAKE"! I had not heard that before, But I WILL be using it.:D:LOL:

Roscoe, that was a real chuckle about Ron and Jamo! :)

So now that the speech has been made public do we have anyone that still thinks it is a bad idea? Personally, I think it could have been better written, and maybe a bit more inspirational, but then I'm one of those elitist prigs who is just never satisfied with 'good enough'.

Oh, and for those of you who are convinced that the speech was changed please feel free to prove it. Jim Greer of the GOP in FL has also been squawking about how the speech was supposed to contain all kinds of political rhetoric, but it looks like he was making the whole thing up as he has no evidence to back up his statements. Please feel free to help him out 'cause it doesn't look good when conservative types make baseless accusations.:LOL::rolleyes:

It tells us that there is a really big piece of sh!t sitting in the oval office. With a racist wife.Bent on doing major harm to OUR country.

computerworks 09-08-2009 01:07 PM

...my, you do have issues, don't you.

BeanCounter 09-08-2009 01:45 PM

Steve,

The Obama camp did considerable back pedaling on the speech saying the announcement was poorly worded. You do not know for sure what his original remarks were so you probably should refrain from doing the same thing you criticized Jim Greer for.

Personally, I read every word of it and did not find it harmful. The kiddos were off to school to hear the illustrious leader give his speech. And since I don't trust him on most other things I can only hope he didn't try to sneak something in like he generally does.

Damn it, Bernie... I am mighty proud of you!

(I heard it live...it's probably on the 'Tube by now)
It was squeaky clean and full of motivation...nothing more.

It should become an annual event, no matter who is in office.

BeanCounter 09-08-2009 02:13 PM

Ron,

Nothing to be proud of. I was being the same logical and fair minded person that I always am. :p

J. T. Toad 09-08-2009 02:53 PM

Steve, your argumentative skills astound..... I'll play along...

No! You prove it didn't!

You got one thing right... poorly written is an understatement.

If this should be an annual event, I certainly hope which ever president will obtain a reasonable grammarian to write this type of lengthy diatribe.

(considering the released text) Hey O, tell me how many American kids were actually seeking an education in Indonesia?

squeaky clean? That's the moronic statement of the thread. This speech was quite the hypocritical parallel to his rise to power.

Additionally, since Steve seems to have neglected his "equal time" critiques of "both" political parties.... Do you think the Republicans will call for the same GAO inquiry as the Democrats demanded for Bush?

It is amazing how comparatively blind some choose to be.... ignorant fools!

I have no idea what you mean by this... but if it makes sense to you, that's just fine.

You and Steve must have been on the same debate team......

In actuality, (Yes it is) to the n+1, where n is the number of time you may argue that "it's not."

computerworks 09-08-2009 03:06 PM

For some unknown reason, you have come here with an incredible chip on your shoulder and an angst that borders on incomprehension.

You may think you have that liberty here. Well, you don't.

Either adjust and discuss topics in the forum or just move on to some other site.

Thanks
