Report: Government to hire 270,000 by 2012

Charlotte Business Journal - by Tierney Plumb Washington Business Journal

Federal agencies will add more than 270,000 employees during the next three years, according to a report from the Partnership for Public Service.

The total projected hiring for “mission-critical jobs” is expected to jump more than 40 percent during fiscal 2010 to 2012 from the previous three years.

The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit compiled the report after surveying 35 federal agencies about hiring needs.

Federal hiring will be concentrated in five fields: medical and public health, security and protection, compliance and enforcement legal and program management.

The medical and public health arena has 54,114 projected hires, with many new jobs in the departments of Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services. Openings will be in nursing, occupational and rehabilitation therapy and radiology.

In security and protection, there are 52,077 projected hires in intelligence analysis, international relations, foreign affairs and security administration. The most openings are expected in transportation security within the Department of Homeland Security, which has 34,500 projected hires.

Now tell me.....what do these people produce?

Nothing! They will just be more folks producing more restrictions , rules, paperwork and checkers,... checking the checkers and part of the Obama Big Brother America.

Unfortunately, we the few working people will have to support all of this..that is if these departments and programs get funded.

Please Mr. Obama, let me know when the government will be installing the camera's in my house, I need to feel secure that you are watching over me.

Wasn't one of his big campaign rants about how the Govt. had grown and HE was going to cut it back? I guess he figures if he hires enough people he can assure himself of not having any problem getting elected again. Congress had better watch out or they will no longer be needed or have any power.

You're right, Roscoe. These agents don't produce anything. They are something like the guy in the rowboat (management) that calls cadence but doesn't add to the rowing.

Only instead of calling cadence the agent watches the crew (labor) so they don't commit mutiny, watches the management so they don't work the crew to death, and watches for pirates that could threaten the whole boat (owned by the lazy stockholders).

The way I see it, it isn't so much what goverment agents do, as what they prevent.

Course, too many agents and the boat gets a little heavy to row ...and freeboard a bit tight during acts of God (waves) ...same as too much management.

So I guess we might share a "row or get off the boat" philosophy.

Wes

More taxes for all of us.

It's interesting - in CA, the State is having to lay off people or furlough workers a few days a month as part of balancing the budget, but at the federal level – business just goes on even with a projected $9 Trillion debt. If the feds can’t borrow money to pay workers, they just print it, hoping that tax revenues will increase – if they don’t, tax rates will increase. What a great scam.

Dan,

That couldn't be possible. He is President and we all know they don't lie.

Simple.... adding federal jobs produces a higher budget requirement.

Higher budget means what???
