An other Germany story. We [wife & I] were in a small village that was having "Volkfest." [the Spring version of Oktoberfest] To 'accommodate' the processing and elimination of the bier, they bring in a tractor trailer 'outhouse.' 2 doors in the side of the trailer, men and ladies. A charge for the ladies as they use a stall while the men simply pee against the ceramic walls of the pissort side. The wife and I go on the same schedule, very unusual, so she waits on the steps to the female door while I'm on the male steps, maybe 2 feet away. As luck would have it we enter at the same moment. I had been looking at her and talking as we were about to enter our respective doors. We stepped through the different doors,,,,,,,,,,,,,and were still looking right at each other. NO divider inside, just a large open trailer with stalls at one end and pee walls at the other.%/:LOL:

Great thread...

I had a horrid issue with TP in Montana recently. Just one of a string of hotel misfortunes there over the years, I guess.

This episode was in the hotel the company puts us up in. They were short on rooms, again, and the elevator hasn't worked for a couple of weeks. So I took a room right at the top of the first flight of stairs, as to not carry my heavy grips up three flights.

Turns out it was a smoking room and it reeked. I didn't think they had them anymore.
Never-the-less I thought I could bear it for one night instead of carrying all my $hit back down and finding out there was nothing else anyway.

The stinger was the hot water. Lots of times there is none, or not much more than slightly lukewarm. A couple of times, they shut the water off in the middle of my shower, so it pays to run some water in the sink first in case it's needed to get the soap off. That is if the plug in the scungy sink will even hold water.

This time was different. One faucet had hot water ...and the other side had really hot scalding water. When it finally came through. From experience, it would make a good Candid Camera set-up watching somebody turning and turning the knobs looking for the right combo. Unbelievable. :JEKYLHYDE

At first I thought somebody screwed up just the sink, but the same thing in the shower. I was already pretty wet by the time it started to really scald me, but not soapy yet, thank God. Still, the only solution was to wet the washcloth by changing hands frequently under the faucet and wash with some soap when it kinda cooled. Then carefully rinse the cloth and wipe the soap off me. Real showering was out of the question. My fingers were sore from the heat, no appendage would have been safe.. :p

Then the kicker was when I went downstairs and ate in the greasy spoon. Sure enough I desperately had to sit on the throne right after. Unfortunately, I left the stool unflushed from the time before. I was thinking I could flush just once for several little frequent prostrate whiz trips since I don't trust these stools to flush without some kind of major problem. (I could tell you stories.) So, anyway, I flushed it right before I sat down so as to have clean water in case it splashed. :MECOOL:

Sat right down and started the movement process before I realised my azz was getting severely steamed. Sure enough, the toilet, which I just flushed, was pure scalding hot too. The steam was so bad the toilet paper melted on my fingers before I could use it. My li'l cinnamon ring was sweaty and never, ever, felt like it was done being wiped. It was smeary, steamy hell, actually. Ya gotta be there... ...I swear it was like wiping with mashed potatoes.

Normally, I would have took another shower after an experience like that. But... :o

Some great stories here. Russia is another place that has a hole in the floor.
Big country I know but I ran into a couple of places like that.

Eastern europe seems to favor the shelf toilets (you never get splashed)
but never had any with hot water. Had one place with no water and some old
woman cleaned them out periodically I'm guessing. The paper has been getting better, when available. Several countries I visited you could be whizzing in the urinal when a wahine would come wandering out of the toilet
stall. Still wonder what would happen if I had gone into the women's room.
In America I could still be in jail but over there probably no big deal.

Buzz - you nearly had me on the floor with that story. On occasion when I was feeling good I have left a token in an elevator - but doubt if I ever
accomplished what you did.

Here in Oregun we have had some "cultural" problems with our immigrants from the south. It seems that many plumbing facilities south of the border are incapable of handling paper products and the receptacle for the used TP is a trash can next to the toilet. A woman was fired a few years back for complaining to her boss that someone was tossing the soiled TP into the trash and she thought it was disgusting.

She filed suit and lost, it appears we all need to be more understanding....

On another entirely different matter Portland Oregon has a vast pristine watershed called the Bull Run. There is very limited access to the area but some very environmentally safe logging does occur. I know the company that works in the area logging entirely with horses. The horses are required to wear a diaper
http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/dailyweekly/diaper.jpg
to ensure no refuse is contaminating the water supply.

I asked him what he does with the cr*ppy diapers, he grins and tells me he washes them out in the creek:3DSMILE:

A two part story here . On a business trip to one of our Divisions in Lyons , I went to the men`s room during a break . Wondered why several of my fellow employees were grinning . Went in and there was a woman cleaning the men`s room ... had to really go , so used the urinal while she was standing beside it cleaning the floor ... which was an experience . Then went to wash my hands and looked for the soap dispenser . The soap was about 8 to 10 inches long and about 2 inches in diameter and on a rod that was at a 45 degree angle over the sink . Seems you were supposed to grab the soap with one hand and ... well you get the picture . Went back to the room and my buddies were mimicking the "movement" as I sat down .

Somebody has a perverted sense of humor, perhaps the cleaning lady who sticks around to observe reactions. And her cameraman. :JEKYLHYDE

Actually that sounds kind of practical as far as bar soap goes. It would, of course, stay hard, as opposed to a bar just laying there getting soft. Just as long as it doesn't dispense anything.

Wes

P.S.
Thanks a lot, Fred, for pointing out the taters and gravy resemblance. Now I too, will have this vision. :3DSMILE:

In the Oktoberfest "tents" in Munich they had 3 'rooms' Men's, Ladies, [each with an entry fee] and the pisser. The Men's and the Ladies were private. The pisser was just a double wide open doorway with a screen a few feet inside. It was only troughs attached to the walls of a long narrow room. Guys went into drain some bier, and VERY often their lady friends would accompany them. He would stand there relieving himself and they would be conversing about, who knows what!
Besides the coed nature of the place was the fact that all the guys had been drinking bier for hours. Not just drinking bier, but munching on large white salted radishes. Meaning it was often EXPLOSIVE in there. The were occasional impromptu farting contests in several languages! The pisser could hold a hundred or more guys and were always full. Surprising they didn't have their own weather in there!:3DSMILE::3DSMILE:

Wes .... it would of course stay hard etc ...... I`m not touching that line with a 10 foot pole ( or soap ) .
Dan 40 .... forgot all about the radishes . I was at a local fair in August in Lohr am Main and the combination of liters of beer , radishes and pork were disastrous the next morning !

I'm betting you mean Lyons, France and Not Lyons, Colorado (where I live). Although I think the public restroom in Lyons (CO) Sandstone Park might be so managed :)

I'm all for it if we can subsitute it with the Enviromentalists.

Tom, maybe you guys could work on a holder design...:)

I love it when celebrities fly around in their private jets then tell us dull normals how we have to do this or that for a better environment. Cheryl Crow can use one sheet of toilet paper if she wants, I will contiue to use as much as I think is necessary to do the job.

What do people think happens when we clear cut some land? Do they think "that's it, the trees are gone forever"? Do they not realize that in 20 or 25 years there will be another crop of trees there almost ready to be harvested again? Trees are a renewable resource except when the forest is burned down to make more room for cows, houses, or parking lots. %/

Upon checking into a motel on the Oregon coast many years ago, my 12 year old nephew went running to the bathroom. When he came out, he proclaimed (very matter of factly), "All they have in there is John Wayne toilet paper". Puzzled, I asked, "John Wayne toilet paper?" "Yeah", he replies, " don't take sh!t off nobody!"

Toilet paper is an American thing. Americans came up with it and were the first to use it.

Up until then, people just...stank.
