Default Anyone buy headers from Midstates?

The builder of our car bought headers from Midstates and had the Jet Hot coated. We are wanting to know how they are supposed to be assembled as the left collector/tail pipe just fell off the upper header section and there are no flanges or bolts holding them together. Since we have a Hot Jet coating, we don't want to have a set of flanges welding on. Anybody out there have this issue and have a suggestion on keeping them connected?

Mine was assembled by Midstate a couple of years ago. Looks like they used some gasket adhesive, slid the pipes to the header and then attached them with some self-tapping screws. Once the side pipes are attached to the body they don't move too much. I had one screw loosen up & it made a lot of noise, but a few turns with the socket fixed it.

I put flanges on mine and then had them coated.The slip fit leaked and made alot of noise.If I were to do it again, I would get custom ones built, and have them coated.

Default Header flanges

I'm finishing up a Midstates. After wrestling with the headers and collectors I've decided that this is definitely one area that could have been engineered better. Even though the pipes I inherited from the previous owner have been coated I've bought the flanges from Finish Line and plan to put them on in the next week or so. Good thread on this site from a couple of guys who did this with their car. Search for "installing exhaust flanges". I like things neat and tidy and the slip fit with metal screws holding them together ain't gonna cut it.

I took mine to a custom muffler shop, they welded the slip fit together but had a little trouble with the inner portion of the weld. I haven't had any leaks but I would prefer to have flanges so that I can take them apart easier.

Yeah, slip fit with a self-tapping screw. My car is 11 years old now and the jet hot coating is starting to come off and they're rusting a bit so while I have them off I'm going to have flanges welded on them. Never really had much trouble with them other than they would tend to leak some. I do agree with some others though that they should have added the flanges from the start, it would have made things easier.

I believe early Hurricanes like mine used Midstates pipes. They were slip fits and they leaked, drove engine bay temps through the roof, made a black sooty mess and just plain sucked. I wound up having the coating blasted off, welding on flanges provided by the hew Hurricane in Iowa and then recoating. Call Steve or Monty at Hurricane and see if they are still using Midstates systems. If they are, you can buy the flanges and have them welded on after uncoating the pipes. There is no easy fix to your problem.
