CT/MA Drive to Columbus Circle 10/3/2010

http://www.vintage-motorsports.com/a.../abb.sized.jpg

Weather outlook for this weekend is currently looking very good, though a bit cooler. If we get the Fall Sprint off on Saturday, then on Sunday October 3rd we plan to make the trek down to Columbus Circle NYC for the annual get together.

If things work out then we should also have the camera crew along for this one.

The Columbus Circle event is early, it starts at 7am and wraps up around 9am. For this reason we must have our rally point at approx. 6am. If you are planning to join us from MA or other areas further away it might be best to take advantage of the Holiday Inn, North Haven, CT after our Saturday drive and just join us for the Sunday event.

The rally point will be at the rest stop in Greenwich, CT on the southbound side of the Merritt Parkway. You must be at this site at 6:00 AM to join us.

Here is our meet spot and drive route for reference (we will encounter tolls, recommend bringing your EZ Pass if you have it, if not bring cash):

After the Columbus Circle Run we will be heading north to Orange, CT for the 10th Annual Pyramid Shriners Car Show. This is a big one that closes the CT show season. Registration closes at 11am. We should be getting there around 10:30am from NYC.

A busy weekend, hope to see a lot of owners out for all of them.

Sounds good, hey Jay, about what time do you think you will be heading thru stratford/shelton area, I would like to wait on the side of the Merritt for you and then join the caravan if you are going to be cruising to the rally point as a group?

I am going to be traveling the Merritt Parkway from Milford and I will be departing my house at 4:45am!!! So that means I should be running by Shelton around 5:00am...

OK, so if I was to get on the Merritt off Route 8, I think that is exit 10, it should take you another 5 minutes to get there from Milford, so if I am there at 5:00 I should be safe to get meet you. I will get on and pull over as soon as I see a safe shoulder.Plan 1
Plan 2, if anybody local is interested we could all meet at the commuter lot in Stratford on the side of the Merritt right after the Sikorsky bridge

Just a thought - There is a rest area just after Exit 46 in Fairfield, it's well lighted, off the road and offers EZ off EZ on. Remember, it will be dark at 6:00AM.

That might be where we should plan on meeting? The on ramp for 15 South near Sikorsky is pretty long from what I remember, if it's only you that might be a better option. You'll know when I go by and I will just drop the speed through that section.

It's going to be a sprint to get to NYC in a reasonable time.

Jay, I will get on the Merritt at exit 10 off Route 8. There is an overpass with a nice pull-off area, I will wait there. I will be there at 5:00, you will probably be going past there at 5:05...I will be looking for you, no need to slow down...LOL

We are going to add a quick stop at the Rest Stop in Fairfield, CT near exit 46 on the Southbound side of the Merritt. This will be a pull of / pull on so we can join a few of us up. We will be here at approx. 5:20am and if we have 3 or more cars or the clock strikes 5:30am we are going to take off for the Greenwich stop.

This is the route with that stop:

Hey guys, thanks for making the run to the city. It was a great day with 43 cars, doesn't get much better than that.
