Power...

Hey BT,

How are you my friend? They will fly with a 1,600cc VW Type 1 engine with less than 100hp, to tell you the truth. These "Little Basturds" to quote James Dean, with a WRX engine could likely get it in low earth orbit.

My demontration vehicle will be a standard 160 hp VW Type 4 engine, when we get a few under our sales belt, I'd sell it and move up to a 200 hp T4 or Porsche 914 engine and 5 speed transaxle. Later maybe a Subaru.

Here is the only photo I have showing a Subaru engine being fit to the chassis.http://www.jimsgems.com/McRae19a200.jpg

Time will tell, there is so much to do at this moment in time, I'm gonna walk before I run. I want to do this for a long time. Right now a major mistake would be fatal.

You Be Well Dear Friend, Be Well.

Bugman, Who is we? I'm currently accepting reservations for March 2003 delivery, all it takes is a deposit in the correct amount and that's only $10,775, that amount wouldn't even buy a decent Side Oiler.

Bugman 11-14-2002 05:16 AM

Jim,
Bugman is me, Ron Jennings. I live in Staunton Va. I've been hanging around a few years. Read almost daily but don't post much as I am still Cobraless. It seems when I close enough $$ wise the wife has a child..hhmm..go figure. Last year I had a little over $10 g in the cobra fund and poof there came another child and I had to put another bedroom on the house $14,000 gone! I don't want to go too far in debt over a car so gradually I'm getting closer. By the way I'm bugman because I own a pest control company not because I'm a Volkswagon nut. But years ago I did have a Laser 917, cool car !

JimsGems 11-14-2002 09:18 AM

Ron,

I know the story well, everytime I got ahead... I had another Boy!
Four times, finally figured out what was causing it!

Just don't let it "Bug" you too much, keep going and believe. Be Well

Jim...

Will I be thrown out of the Spyder class of 2003 if I ask you this? :

Is there a ragtop available? :p

cobrajeff 11-14-2002 11:01 AM

Hey Jim!

Good luck to you in your new venture!

Regards,

Jeff Burgy

JimsGems 11-14-2002 11:54 AM

BnB; No, you will not be thrown out. There are no current plans for a top, it an "Open Roadster! Why would you want a top?" But... all in good time I will have some made locally, but initally there will be... no ragtops.

CobraJeff, and all yous other guy's, thank you for alll the support and well wished, now all I need is a few orders. Bless you all.

Hey Jim,
Call me when you have a chance.:)

LateApex 11-14-2002 03:12 PM

Jim,

Congrat's on this. I assume you will be a regular on www.spyderclub.com now. Exited Exodus I assume. That board needs a curmudgeon like you on there. Get Jamo, Bony, and Turk to buy a spyder and get them on that forum--that should liven things up a bit!! Hell, tell them they will be making aluminum bodied ones for a third of the cost of a Kirkham/Shelby!! I had looked at the Beck and Vintage spyders a year ago, but then I have another "replica" and I don't need more "replicas".

Have fun,

TC

JimsGems 11-14-2002 03:53 PM

TC;

Thanks, I'm on the boards www.spyderclub.com and www.spyderowners.com also. They are very small sites and the activity is slow there are only about a dozen folks the will "play" the rest seem to just hang out and look, not like here, that’s for sure.

I'll still be reading, posting and keeping my friends and others informed. I do nudge them once and a while, just because that’s what a curmudgeon does.

I still love the Cobra and always will, if I can get this business off the ground, you bet I’ll have a Cobra Replica too. ERA, Unique, Kirkham, MidStates, Hmmmm, this is going to be fun.

I would like to get a few of these Spyders on the road. These little Spyders, are fun, quick and nimble. By-the-by... We can make an aluminum body but we leave the bargain category at that point we also leave the value model I'm working to. I will be looking at that though. Aluminum bodies for the Spyder, could be someday soon, or not.

Chuck Beck has announced he or his company will be building an aluminum body, but if they put it on the existing frame it will not be a performer, that is in my own never to be humble opinion.

The best part of this whole thing is the McRae Spyder is built by a real life Formula 1, Formula 5000 Champion, engineer, Car Designer. This is a real well thought out car. Fit and finish seems to be equal to the better Cobra makers. These little monsters will go on the road for less than $31,000. That’s for a screamer!

Thanks also for your kind words and thoughts. Be Well.
