Thank you for the reply. Would you care to give us a recap of what did actually occur that night, just so we do know what took place? How about also identifying yourself? Thanks! |

Thank you for the follow up. Believe me, I do know what you are going through and I am sure we all appreciate (as I do) your providing information about the race/accident. First hand knowledge such as what you have shared can only make a clearer picture for all of us. It might even help prevent someone from going through the same tragic ordeal. Thanks! |

So, Mark was behind you and pulled up alongside the Trans Am and the race began? How long did the race last before the Cobra flipped? What kind of speed was the Trans Am doing when you heard the Cobra tires squeel, apparently trying to stop for the light? Thanks! |
IT's High Time
'bout time for a real track in Des Moines. Spend some time at Porky's, go to the Good Guys summer thing at the Fair Grounds and just look at the seemingly countless number of enthusiest automobiles. Not to mention the avalanche of scooters. Eddyville is a very long drive and can't collect the gate that a track in DSM could and will, if the Big Boys, IE: Karl, Denny Elwell, Bill Knapp, Lamar of Seven Flags Fitness and the like could envision and act on. A real community attraction. Why not go Nascar while their at it? Surely "Prairie Meadows" has done it, why not a class track at the cross roads of the nation? Hech, Polk county could get involved, tax the you know what out of it and as long as the city of Des Moines doesn't get involved, (we wouldn't want to charge "out of towners" more, would we?) it might even turn enough profit to finish I-235 in the black!
Enough from me on this rant! I could go on and on about the short comings of our fair city, but with the highest property tax levies in the nation we ought to get a few things for it that don't smell so bad.........I'm Frantic............FranticFrank Stupid puter now it's seeing double |

They are charging him with "homicide with a vehicle". |
"homicide " ?
He's probably about as guilty of "homicide " as Mr Doherty was of "suicide". Sorry to be so blunt. But BOTH driver were guilty... |

Des Moines, May 14, 2003 - The suspect wanted in last week's deadly street racing incident has turned himself in.
Des Moines police say 35-year-old Gregg McCarthy was driving the car that collided into a green Cobra driven by Mark Doherty. The collision caused Doherty's car to roll over several times before hitting a utility pole at 2nd and Madison. Doherty was killed at the scene. His passenger, Karrie Thomas, was taken to a local hospital. McCarthy is charged with homicide by vehicle and leaving the scene of a deadly accident; both punishable by up to seven years in jail. McCarthy posted his $16,000 bond on Wednesday. This is the article in todays paper. Debbie |
