Mike,

most of the NorCal members are Sacramento and north of Sac, FYI.

You might try checking on the Bay Area Cobra Club or Central Valley forums to find an installer closer to you in San Jose. Either of these groups should be able to help you locate someone.

Contact your insurance agent. Windshield replacement is covered under your comprehensive coverage (subject to your deductible).

They will have several mobile glass companies to choose from. Pick the one that does the most Ferrari/Lamborghini replacements. The dealerships will know who they are. They will know how to do it right.

Mine has been done three times so far. I let them take the frame out of the car and take it back to their shop to perform the replacement. Once completed, they bring it back and install the frame back in the car. Total cost of about $750. They order the windshield from SPF in Irvine and once received, turn around is usually about two days for the glue to set up. I have a $100 deductible, so it's well worth the money to me. Next time I will have them replace it with Cobra Valley's polyglass windshield and I will pay the difference in price.

Are you replacing this entire frame and window? If so, make sure that the replacement matches the existing assembly. There's been a few posts indicating that SPF made some changes back and forth with the windshield assembly and windshield.

Also, touch base with Steve Wood at Mustang Ranch as he might know someone local.

Thx. i am just going to replace the windshield beacuse of road pits. But i have been told that i have to remove the whole assembly. I guess i just loosen the center rod and have somebody hold it while i loosen the 4 bolts under the cowl and lift it out carefully. Then i will take it to the glass shop with the new windshield

Mike,
You might ask your local glass shop IF they have done one of these before, before you let them do it. I do all of mine, and have done a few with friends too...

They just need to be careful about how they separate the perimeter chrome away from the glass and trim making sure not to bend it. There are some tricks on how to soak it first and tap it away with soft wood sticks-blocks vs. pulling it off and risking bending anything. I would only give it to someone who's done it before or who will guarantee to replace your chrome pieces if they bend it.

"Road pits"?? How bad can this be, and if that's the case, what does the front end look like?

its totally amazing the only road chips on the paint are below the oil cooler which you cant see. its the lighting in my garage that show the chips in the windshield. Do these windshields pit easy or am i making a big deal over nothing?

"Road Pits"? What are these? Are there really pits in the glass? You all need to stop driving by the skeet range.

Anyway, you might want to look over your job before you turn the screwdriver. It would be bad to need an extra hand when one is not available.
