2015 Toy Run Official Thread

Okay Everyone,

Time to dust off your Santa hats!

We're going to continue our annual tradition with a “twist”….this year there will be several hundred additional attendants!

As most of you know, Sutter Memorial Hospital is no more. Unfortunately, the new “digs” are just not as hospitable to our usual routine. So, this year it might be nice to join forces with EuroSunday. I’ve heard great things about the “Rally4Kids”, and so it seems like a nice event to try.

NEW DATE AND LOCATION

SUNDAY DECEMBER 6TH (yes, next week)

We’ll plan on meeting at Perko’s Café (9647 Micron Ave) at 9 am for breakfast. Afterwards, we’ll caravan over to the Shriners Hospitals for Children (2425 Stockton Blvd), with an anticipated arrival of 11 am.

Shriners asks that we bring an unwrapped gift, and don’t forget your Santa’s Hats!

The show must go on, rain or shine!!.....Ron

See the attached link for more info about the event.

As I had posted, I have been working with Sutter and they got back to me today. The lady I talked to was on vacation last week, causing the delay in their response to my inquiry. She was aware of our previous visits. They were excited about us coming but admitted the parking would need to be addressed. Because they are in a new building, they are still working out the kinks in these kind of events. I told her we would most likely do something else this year and she said she hoped we would contact them next year when they knew better how to handle these kind of groups.

Too bad about Sutter, however, we're in. See you at Perko's on Sunday.

Thanks for doing the leg work!

Good work Ron! The EuroSunday group does a nice job with Rally4Kids. See you Sunday.

Son and Daughter-in-law running the California International Marathon on Sunday and we're watching their kids and waiting at the finish line for them. Sorry we couldn't keep the same date - next year.
Third Saturday at C&C if no rain.

My wife Cher and I will be there unless it rains. What's the higher end age group for gifts?

Igofastr 12-02-2015 09:32 AM

Fortunately, I don't think it's going to rain.

As for gifts, I don't really know, but I suspect that they see children up to at least age 18.

Thanks Ron!

Maria and I will be there Sunday - see you all then!

Keep it coming guys...I told Perko's 20-30 people. :)

Not that I'm strong-arming you, or anything.

Ron,

I'm thinking people aren't checking this site until it gets closer to the 3rd Saturday. I asked Duane to send an e-mail (he has an extensive list) to the NorCal folks as a heads up. Hopefully, others will do the same.

Phil,

Thanks. And Duane, thank you, also. I received an email notification.

Actually, I'm not that worried.

Perko's will be fine, no matter how many of us show up. And with 100s of participants at the Shriners Hospital, there's a lot less pressure on us.

I just don't want the usual participants to miss out because they are unaware or don't think the turnout will make it worth their while.

Finally, I didn't really ask for a roll call or verbal commitments, so I don't expect everyone to chime in. I know of several participants who will be attending, who have been quiet here.

Hi, glad you saw it. Sent it out to about 30 or so, and got more than half returned back with invalid email addresses since I last used it two years ago.
I figure those who wanna go are checking in or they'll show up last minute like we have seen before in prior years. No matter what, like Ron said, it will be just fine. If each one of us brings just one more small present than we planned, we can make up the difference and all is good. :)

I don't know about PA, but here in CA they request new unwrapped toys. No specific quantity, whatever you feel comfortable with...... just check the age group of the recipients.

I woke up about 2:30 this morning and thought "$hit, there is no way to get across the River from Roseville because of the CIM running from Folsom to the Capitol!" :(

Fair oaks to Watt and cross there? Watt is 5 min from Bradshaw to Perkos.

decooney 12-06-2015 09:06 AM

It's raining where I'm at here at 8:05. Driving the regular car, like they said for the Toy Run "Rain or Shine". See you guys there at Perkos.

pgermond 12-06-2015 10:03 AM

The CIM runs down Fair Oaks, that's the problem.
