Default The fatal attraction of Salmon Falls Road

Here in Northern California just east of Sacramento there is a road that many bicyclists, motorcyclists, and car enthusiasts drive. For those of you who live near it, know this road and its beautiful surroundings; and its risks. I almost lost a good friend on this road once during a sport bike run. Every year bikes just get faster, more wrecks, and its just getting to be out of control for anyone to drive it safely now.

Unfortunately for those that know how to stay within their limits and respect for others on the road, it has truly become a very unsafe place to be. Its commonplace to see ambulances on any warm Saturday or Sunday heading down Salmon Falls Road to scoop up victims, and mostly sport motorcyclists testing their limits.

Last Sunday, we were in a pack of Cobras only five minutes into Salmon Falls already seeing motorcycles whizzing by us before we saw the first group of bicyclists stopped to help a motorcycle victim who went off the cliff. Then just Two minutes later down into the Canyon another victim flys right by us (two inches from one Cobra) on a blind right hand turn bouncing and flopping on the road right to the edge. His new motorcycle catapulted into the canyon below. He was holding on to the edge, fortunately still in one piece - this time. To see two motorcycle wrecks one after the other, and a close call for our Cobra group sure helps to refresh the mind about where not to be on any given Sunday.

BEWARE Reminder: Any NORCAL people out here that still drive this road, just BEWARE, this is still really not the place to be for a nice scenic drive on a warm weekend day. Spread the word.

Here is an old SacBee article that still applies.
