Pcv?

Can anyone who has been thru the SB100 process & has an fe engine, tell me if BAR required them to have a PCV?

I will be going to BAR soon and don't have a PCV on my 427fe. Will BAR want one for a 1965?

Trying to keep my trips to BAR to one!;)

Thanks
jdog

Jdog,
I went through it all this past December with my SB427. I just have breather caps and no PCV. Not sure if there is any difference for a BB. Assuming you are going by body style and not engine block year, I wouldn't think that BB versus SB would make a difference. Good luck and congratulations on completing the process!

Jdog,

Per our BAR referee, if you have the SB-100 number and tell him to go by the car body year, no smog equipment has to be on any engine. He said he only looks at the engines to see them, but doesn't care what you have on it. Some have blowers on their street rods. He does do a smog test and then sends the readings in I think, but once he does that he puts the smog exempt sticker on.

No PCV on mine.

None on mine either.

Thanks guys!

That's good news.:)

P.S. Anyone in Sac tell me of a CHP office that is easy to deal with.

Press FFR 4439 03-04-2007 11:54 AM

jdog: The Newcastle office is a breeze, but I think that they want you to be in the same County as you live for your VIN appointment

decooney 03-04-2007 12:00 PM

Jdog,
Not required for you now that you have your SB100. :D

I've completed inspections with and without SB100 on my Cobras, for your reference. DC

Jdog,
When I called to make my BAR appointment, they told me which office I had to go to. I could not select an office.

I scheduled mine with the Newcastle office. Get this.... they asked if I was going to come in or did I want an officer to come to my home! I elected the home option.... the officer showed up, took five minutes to do the VIN, and then we talked cars for 45 minutes :) Once you get the SB100 number, the rest is a cake walk.

JDOG

Your missing the point of a SB100 process. The SB100 entitles you to be smog exempt, you do not need any smog equipment on your engine, this is why the SB100's are so prized!!

jdog,

so what's the latest? did you get it done, or are you still trailering that beauty from point-to-point?

John S Peterson 03-08-2007 11:49 PM

So you thought you were exempt..........

Some people seem to think that their 1975 or prior vehicle being exempt from
inspections allows them to remove or modify emission control equipment. It is against the law as it always has been to remove or modify any emission control device on vehicles manufactured beginning 1966. Law enforcement agencys have always had the right to issue "fix it" tickets as they were called back then but it was such a hassle they pretty much gave up on it. I got one on a 1969 Chevelle SS 396 in 1973.

It has been coming for a long time, starting in the bay area and if you were unlucky enough to live in the Fremont area there was a very "emissions educated" officer nicknamed "Rosie" you did not want to meet. Stockton Police Department has been educating their officers for some time now and it has become one of the Hot Spots for violations, not only for emissions but for noise. I just saw a nice 1968 Cougar at the referee at the school where I teach who got pulled over for excessive noise in Stockton, at which time the officer then checked for emissions devices finding many missing and/or modified items which he got a citation for. You might laugh to youself the next time your at a stoplight when you hear the car next to you and notice a nice mid 70's car or truck with a 671 and mutiple carbs sticking out of the hood and ask yourself.........is that legal?
The lesson here is...Stay out of Stockton, don't throw out your old smog stuff, and don't think they won't pull our Cobra's over just to ruffle the feathers....jp

A few weeks

I'm still re-adjusting from a few financial setbacks. Money for insurance had to take a back seat to a couple of other priorities. :o

Now, I feel lucky all things considered, to still have my car. It was close, about a year ago.%/

However, with that said, I have ridden-out the storm. And, thru the brilliant work of my very knowledgeable tax preparer, insurance money is on the way.:D

I have an appointment at CHP in 2 weeks. :)

BAR won't make an appointment until I'm thru CHP.

Even my wife has said that it has taken so long, she had long ago gotten over being worried about it. I bought this car 3 1/2 years ago, and it still isn't on the road yet.:o

P.S. I plan on selling the trailer as soon as I get it titled & insured.;)

NorCal Cobra 03-09-2007 12:18 PM

As mentioned in this thread, just regester it per the body style year.

A word of caution---The South Sacramento BAR garage shares space with a continuation school. The students sit about 15-20 feet away from where the car is smog tested. I asked the BAR ref. if I could come in the garage and he let me hang out and watch.

At least 6-7 students were hanging around my car and nearly leaning on the fender and bumpers. I politely asked them to not touch the car and they kept their distance.

Just beware

So,...what's the trailer like? Hint Hint.

jdog 03-09-2007 06:08 PM

Open carhauler

Check my photo gallery for a couple of pictures of the trailer. It's currently registered and is in good shape, I just do know if I'll need to keep it.

jdog
P.S. You can use it any time you want.:)

another question about the Inspections (SB100 exempt)

I was wondering myself about the PCV on my 302. Now how about wipers and backup lights? Proably going thru the South Sac Office for my inspection shortly.

jdog 03-25-2007 10:36 PM

Friday!

I have an appointment at South Sacramento BAR this coming Friday. I'll let you know how it goes.
I have wipers & I don't see the requirement for brake & light anywhere on my paperwork, so I may not have to do it.

Good luck
jdog
