cobra run group is the afternoon...if you run in group 4 you work group 3 so you have to be registered and ready to work by 12:00...all proceeds go to the shriners hospital for children |
Who is going? I may go with Culdad, cobra/miata...anyone else in it to win it?
|
I was out there this afternoon with Alan and Marc (photoguy and Skidmark). Some great competition and an extreme variety of cars. If anyone has the opportunity, go out and spend a few hours - very cool to see auto-x back in Sacramento!!!! :D
|
it actually never left...it moved to stockton for the majority of the events...once a year it comes back to sac...this year it is coming back three weekends
|
I'm glad I didn't run today. I saw too many goobers on the front of almost all of the cars. I don't know how fiberglass would react to the cone strikes, but I don't think I'll test it out on mine. It did look fun though!!! tom

Where in Stockton are the Auto X 's run?

Rick, Stockton Fair Grounds http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Sites/stockton.html

its not hard on the fiberglass...there is a superformance out there every weekend and it looks great |
I guess it would depend how you struck the cone and whether or not it got up under the car and what angle they were struck. We tore chunks out of the bumpers of brand new Ford Crown Vics on the skid pads at the Salinas Airport every year during training so I've seen the damage cones can do when hit at the wrong angle.
I saw the silver Cobra I think your talking about. It looks great from 10 feet, but there are marks under the front I don't think will come out with a buffer. |

If you keep a good coat of wax on it almost everything comes out, I also have the 3M protective film on the front of the car. I use to run a ZO6 Corvette, fiberglass body and no problems. Last year we had one of the few remaining ORIGINAL 427 Cobras running at that event. I didn't see you come back after we talked, I would have given you a ride. Hope to see you come out. Ken 2560 |

Are you a regular at the Sac chapter events? What car do you autocross? Stop and say hi at the next event. Ken 2560 |
Hey Ken, it was nice to meet you. You are a typical friendly Cobra owner like I have come to expect. I saw your runs, and after seeing some of the special construction trans Am style cars, you did Cobra owners proud. If I'm correct there was only a few special non-street legal cars that were quicker.
I think I saw a 46.? run on one particular car, but the others were in the 48's 49's.....Didn't you do a 49.5 or so? As far as that ride....I didn't bring and extra pair of shorts!!! I'll make you a deal...you leave all the track stuff on your Cobra and let me auto cross it on Saturday and I'll let you drive mine on Sundays, on dry pavement, only on a back road, and stay away from cones, after that good coat of wax..whata ya say? tom |
Do they require a roll bar?
|
Here is a link to the SCCA Solo 2 Rule Book, it will help you get into the correct class. There are also events held at Castle AFB in Atwater too.

Hi Tom,
you are right most of the cars that beat me were prepaired cars, I did get down to a 49.0, at least mine is still street legal so I can take it out for a drive. I think I will have to pass on the car swap for now, but you should come by our next Auto-X in Stockton 4/25 & 4/26 and take a ride. Thanks, Ken 2560 |
They don't require a rollbar with stock seat belts, but I sure feel better with one.
Also the Castle site in Atwater has been shutdown due to the airport exspansion. AAS who put on great events there moved to Alameda and I just found out today that the city has closed that down. Not sure where they will end up running now. Thanks, Ken 2560 |
Sorry I missed the AutoX last weekend... I was in Monterey....
|
I think I'll take our Z3 BMW. It handles really well and only has 225HP so it hopefully won't get out of hand, and it pretty much drives itself. Does the helmet have to be specific to racing like at Thunder Hill or just have to meet Snell or some other Standard.
Is there anything else that is required? tom |
