What? hitting things??

Bet this is not his car and doesn't care. Driving wise, just another drifter. Come to Newark and see the kids do this with cops chasing them. Car was rubbing r/r tire on the body, hit the wall, hit the fence. For an AWD car they better look at the transfercase or housing unless this is electrical and can be turned on and off. It's a nice track, 1,500 pound rally car with 600 hp. Would like to see an autocross time not a guy blowing up a set of tires. Rick L. The question was can I do this with my cobra, Hitting walls, hitting fences, Yes but I don't have money for the fiberglass repairs. Smoke the rear tires off the back of the car, No problem. Who want to pay for $360.00 pilot tires? There are about 80% of cobras here that can smoke the tires off the back end. I due wish a had a couple of turbos, that would be fun.

Woooohoooo! Incredible demo of high-powered car control! And smoking tires to boot! Gotta love it. Of course there'll be gripes from the anti-"drifting" folks who fear that anytime you get a car sideways on purpose you run the risk of turning into an Oriental teenager driving a "riced-out" Honda.

Bill Bess 01-06-2011 06:18 AM

WOW !
He is an expert driftrer, had the perfect set-up at the track, and he trashed the car with reckless abandon. With that said, it's all movie magic, plenty of retakes, splice & dice...but still very cool. Perhaps some of the NASCAR drivers should practice drifting to make the cup more interesting and fun to watch. :MECOOL:

Ya, I could do some of those move with my cobra but I'd be in the ditch really fast.

Looks like the parking valet at our local Hotel!

fastraxsg 01-06-2011 09:16 AM

He happens to own the company that sponsors him which helps, he has several other short films on utube with different cars that are pretty incredible, even it he did multiple takes, he's got a cast iron pair in that fire suit...the crashing I can do no problem....

philminotti 01-06-2011 01:00 PM

C'mon Rick! Don't be a hater!

Dangerous Doug 01-06-2011 01:21 PM

Steve70 01-06-2011 09:11 PM

Wonder if they will let me try that?????????? In there car though!

MaSnaka 01-06-2011 09:18 PM

Impressive. A couple questions come to mind though. When you have a 600hp motor hitting the rev limiter, (seems like he keeps his rpms at the limit) doesn't that cut out a bunch of power too? Also I see he shifts with paddles on the steering wheel, what is the lever he keeps pulling, a hand brake for the rear tires? Personally I could do without the motor cutting out all the time, sounds out of tune when it does. Those are some mad skills though, love some of the facial expressions.

John

csx wnab 01-06-2011 10:16 PM

ken is obviously having a blast. and yes the lever he pulls is a rear brake setup to set up for sideways drifts. the engine is turbocharged so with the waste gate popping and keeping the engine against the chip, it might sound out of tune but NOT. and if it's chipped at max power............it won't lose power , just limit rpm.

thudmaster 01-07-2011 02:05 AM

I know I can't do it but if I ever decide to rob a bank I want him as the getaway driver.............:LOL:

In the UK it is/was called Autotesting and I used to do that every other weekend in the 70s (other weekends were for road rallies) Once you got a car with bald rear tires, a good fiddle-brake and a love of revs, it's not as hard as you might think. Not 'easy' of course but once you get into the groove and are blessed with a sensitive bum and fingertips, it's darn good fun. I was far from the best (no budget) but I knew guys back in the day who could match that performance and not hit the bollards or wall - or grass verges. And not shred rear tires for 'fun' :-( I just wish I had had that much power though....a Bugeye Sprite and a Mini Cooper lacked the grunt!
