Superformance Superfest

I am the only one registered from Washington, Oregon, Montana and Idaho to go to the SPF Superfest in Colorado this July. I was wondering if there was anyone else thinking of going from the great Northwest. I think it would be fun to drive if it wasn't almost 1,400 miles. I might drive there and ship the Cobra home as it will be a long ride home after all the excitement of the week. Any ideas?

Hi Ward, the drive is half the adventure. I will be driving from the central Michigan area, some 1250 mi. each way. The event will be a once in a lifetime happening. There are already 80 cars registered. I am looking forward to meeting other owners from all over the U.S. and Canada. Having put some 22,000 mi. on my Superformance with a couple of trips from Mich. to Florida, I can tell you that these cars are a comfortable cross country ride. Hope to see you there. Rick

.. As i set my sites on purchasing one of these fine cars.. I also have my sites set on driving on an extended trip such as this. Who has ventured on such a trip without a hard top?... I have driven distances on a motorcycle.. but you dry of very quickly in the wind... what is the game plan...for a convertible long distance?

As long as your moving, rain flys over your head and only drips on your knees. Stoplights suck so wear your Helly Hansen sailing rain gear but leave the boots at home. Always have a car cover and tarp, use tons of Rain-X on the wind screen since 10-inch wipers don't do much of anything. But then there is the minor traction issue, but that's always a challenge dry or wet, just a little more challenging in the wet.

Of course to stay dryer at the stoplights, you can put a top on your roadster although in my humble opinion then it will resemble the Munster Mobile. Not the Drag-U-La coffin dragster Grandpapa made for Herman to race, but the family Koach stretch Model T with the Shelby 289 in it.

In June 2003 did a 2 week 3435 mile vacation 14 states No reservations .. also all 2 lane highway...Rained 3 times only had top on for 1/2 day...too loud with top on.Got a little wet but not bad at all Best vacation ever!!! only negative was 274 gallon gas SPF1287 w/ 428 Webers but worth it..Steve

I don't want to put up my top. The one time I got caught in the rain it wasn't bad until I got home and realized the passenger foot well had about 1/2" of water! The most common response I got for the source of the leak was under the windshield - But I have trouble believing that. The suggestion was made to drill holes in the bottom of the foot well to let the water drain out because the water will get in there if it rains. I plan on drilling the holes in the floor and I would like to add some very small cowling around each hole underneath to keep water from going up into the passenger compartment. Yeah, the fat tires are REALLY good at hydroplaning.....

This years trip to Florida from Michigan via Maine was nearly 3000 miles. Nearly 1700 miles in the rain. No problem with some minor modifications of the car as gleaned from the SCORE sight. I also added a neoprene rubber (garage door) seal under the top seal to the rear and under the side curtains. Defrosters worked great and even in the inclement weather my wife and I enjoyed the trip. Top was on from Niagara Falls to central GA. Has not been on at all down here in Fla. Driving back to Michigan at the end of the month. don't let the weather scare you from enjoying your car.
