				 T5 Transmission Repair
Anyone know of someone local (Seattle) that works on T5 transmissions on the side that is reputable ? It's been a few years since I have been inside mine and I broke the main shaft at the Rose Cup races and need to figure out something here.

I found a guy (Tom Sawyer) in Marysville that is retired but still does Tremec repairs so will give him a shot and see how it works out.

Ouch. Did motor torque just twist the output shaft 360-degrees too many times and snap off clean, or did you have the full tranny seizure?

Looks like just a snap of the input shaft, the gears and syncros look fine. No internal damage that I can see.
Steve Powell had a spare so we switched tail shafts (as I use a S10 mid shift tail shaft) and switched trans in-between races and all went fine, I now have to get mine repaired.

Whew, good news over what it could have been, just the input shaft torque limiter circuit breaker hitting its threshold. :-)

I went through mine myself last year. It's not too hard if you have a press and a bad ass snap ring tool. If you haven't done so yet, and depending on gearing, one thing that I did was put in a close ratio 5th gear - I think it's like .85 vs the stock .63 (don't quote me) - before 5th was useless at any speed with two digits. Now it's quite useful in the "real world". Let me know if you would like source/PN's.
 Cheers,
 Steve

I have a 2.95 1st and a .82 5th gear for road racing, I still don't get into 5th very much but on those really really long straights I can now use 5th.

Rebuild went fine, new output shaft and some other minor parts, all back together now, picked up a spare T-5 also and rebuilt that so I now have a backup that is ready to go. Now to find the time to take the loaner out and put mine back in before the end of the season races.

Years ago I used Eastside Transmission in Bellevue to rebuild my transmission in my 240Z. I raced that car for over 15 years, with no problems, so I would recommend them. |

Not local, but I got an A5 from Tony at Astro performance in FL. Pricey, but if you want to stick with a T5, highly recommended. I got the one built for 550HP/425 torque. Like a G Force but in my opinion better gears. You can save a little money by sending back your old core if it's repairable. Tony is great to work with and asks detailed questions about your car and its use. |
